Just got my "B" (DVX100BE)

And I´m very satisfied, especially with the low light capabilities, even in progressive. To me it seems like a noticable improvement over the A which I saw at a dealer. I even doubt that low light shooters will gain much from buying a Sony, at least I would take a good look at the B before.

I have quickly read the manual, but I have a question about the F5 vs F6 modes...what is the difference between them?

I've had my DVX100a for three weeks. Just ran into a problem that I couldn't see the boom was in the underscan because I was doing a run and gun interview. I may bit the bullet and sell the 100a and get the 100b just for the overscan/underscan feature.

The difference is in the pulldown pattern applied to the 24p footage.

on F5.. the pulldown is 2:3:2:3, which creates more mixed frames. It is meant if you are going to be editing on a 29.97FPS timeline.

on F6.. the pulldown is 2:3:3:2... creates only 1 mixed frame and allows you to do a pulldown removal when capturing, preserving the original 24p framerate that the camera captured.

Hello Newbie
Forgive me for asking, but where did you buy your BE camera,(I guess E stands for Europe and is a PAL version),cause I'm into buying one too, just couldn't decide about the seller...may I ask the price as well, just for reference...thanx

If it's PAL version then the only difference between F5 and F6 mode is scene settings. Off the top of my head - F6 uses Cine-gamma

Underscan is SO useful/crucial, why has it taken manufacturers so long!?

if you have your cam on sticks, its a workable fix with the A model. There is about a 2-3 Zoom number difference between the LCD and that black line that surrounds the screen on the flip out door ("A"s supercheap underscan feature).

When you have your shot set up, zoom back from, oh lets say Z30 to Z27. If you dont see anything that offends, then it shouldnt be within underscan.

That isn't possible for the shots where you need it the most though... like a panning zoom.
