just got a skycrane

Re: just got a skycrane

that is the jr. ?

i have the same one, i love it, looking for more reasons to use it.

one suggestion, add a bogen 3502, it is a relatively light weight and low profile leveling device that will make it super easy to make sure the camera is level.

the only problem i have ever had with my crane is the L bracket that holds the camera being skewed a little bit and this device makes it so much easier to level it.

Re: just got a skycrane

You mean add the Bogen 3502 to the L bracket? is that like a quick release mount?

Re: just got a skycrane

its not quick release, it is a minimal device to let you adjust 10 degrees in any direction with a bubble level.

you can add a bigger head that has bubble levels but that adds weight on the far end of an 8 foot lever.

i got it on ebay for $55

i also have a bogen 490 with the quick release and the bubble levels.

the small one is great for places where space or weight is at a premium, i have the 3 point car mount from film tools and the small leveler is a great way to make sure things are level, and on the crane it is a no brainer because it weighs so little and it would be so much more complicated to mount a head just for the leveling.

but having the choice between the two is handy.

i wish i could use one quick release plate for everything but the 503/501 plate is a little bit bulky and i don't know what else it fits besides a 503 or 501.

Re: just got a skycrane

I also just got my Britek lights! updated pics are on the link above.

The Skycrane JR. costs $550. From what I can tell right now, it's a good buy. This weekend's the true test. Same goes for those Briteks.

Also, i just realized if the camera side L bracket is not parallel to the ground plane, you can just rotate it with your hand and force the tension wire to slip on the pulley until a leveled angel is established.

;) Ha... what can i say.. the only IKEA in the midwest is 10 mins down the street from me. When I moved out here, we took one trip to IKEA and got everything from there. Nice n' Cheap.

Kinda IKEA-whorish of you to recongnize the furniture as IKEA ain't it?

Re: just got a skycrane

Everytime I see a room like that, the catalog scene from Fight Club pops into my head.

I still like IKEA stuff, I don't own any, but I like it.

Re: just got a skycrane

My wife loves IKEA. Its cheap and looks pretty damn good. Although we have only a couple of items from our 20's days. Hell, if I had my way my house would be the Thomasville Hemingway collection!

Hey, booggerg; I love your Chicago gallery! Very nice work.

Anywho, not to get too sidetracked... let us know how the crane held up on the shoot
