Hey guys,

Just wanted to get some opinions from you guys..

I just got the following lenses:
CONTAX Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm F/1.4 lens
CONTAX Carl Zeiss 35MM 2.8 DISTAGON MM LENS
Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Planar T* ZE Series

Two of my Zeiss lenses are the older Contax version which I will have a EF adapter for. The 50mm is the newer Zeiss lens.

I will be using these on my Redrock adapter on a Panasonic HVX.

What do you guys think of this setup? Will I run into problems with picture quality from the Contax and newer version? Thanks!

I don't know about the newer version but I can personally vouch for the Contax Zeiss Lenses. I have a full set 25,35,50,85,135 and can say they produce a really gorgeous image. I've used them both on my Letus adapter and Canon 5Ds and 7Ds. I upgraded a while back from a set of Canon Fd Lx lenses and I was surprised just how much better the image looked. I love the color rendition and contrast of their glass. It was a good choice. You'll love them.

The only problem I can see is that the ze series don't have aperture rings, as is common to all modern canon glass. Would be fine on a 7d or similar.

I have a set of Contax Zeiss as well (18,25,35,50,135,300), and they're great on my HPX and the Letus. There should be no big of a difference between a ZE mount and a Contax mount glass. However, be aware that the 50mm 1.4 is one of the sharpest lens, although I heard and seen really good thing about the 85mm 1.4 . You may notice a slight difference with the 35mm 2.8 (if really you look for it), but this would not be due because of the mount difference...

Thanks! I have since sold my 50mm 1.4 ZE lenses due to the aperture problem to get the Contax 50mm 1.7. I also just purchased the legendary Contax 21mm Distagon 2.8 (A whopping $1450!). I'm debating now if I should sell the 35mm or not...

tht s a good deal! have been thinking of getting one too! The control of barrel distortion is pretty amazing!

As far as selling the 35mm, i would wait to able to compare 21,35,50. IMO 35mm is nice for medium shot hand held, not too wide, but does not magnify the camera shakes as the 50 would (being a longer lens), but maybe the 50mm is just fine for you....

Tim,

The 21mm is just pure awesome. I can see why people say this is a legendary lens!

I think you're right, maybe I should keep the 35mm to have something in between 21mm and 50mm. I think I'll settle with the 21mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. Now to debate if I'll ever need a 135mm... I can't believe how addicted I got to these lenses after purchasing just ONE to begin with.

The 135mm is my second favorite after the 50mm... , but hey you have the 85mm... (I have a 2x Mutar II that I sometimes use on the 135mm , convenient ....)
