just bought "Hollywood Camera Work"

I have the full DVD box set - it is worth every penny.

The style of delivery is quite flat - so perhaps best to watch one episode a day rather than try and watch loads but I can't fault the content or quality of it in any way.

They also do a Director's SFX dvd box set which I also have - same again - excellent.

This is a fantastic tutorial. Definitely worth every penny. There's so much to learn I haven't even
gotten through it all. A +

because the actors have "no emotion" it allows you to see exactly what the camera positions and moves do for the scene "on their own merit" without influence from an actors expression. i find this pretty clever and effective.

Perhaps I didn't explain it very well. I'm not referring to the actor's faces or emotion. Just the narative is very matter of fact which is fine but you (or should I say I) can't listen to that for hours on end.

But this was not meant to be a negative anyway - I'm full of praise for the product and think it's great. As I say I also purchased the Director's box set too so it must be good.

no problem NewHPXuser. i didnt take anything as a negative in the least. your right though, i thought you were referring to the style of the models but you were speaking of the narrative. i agree with you on the narrative though, its dry and to the point. i do appreciate its simplicity though. this tutorial is quite a bit different than any other tutorial ive had.

question for you on the Director's SFX tutorials. if someone doesnt do much green screen do you think there is any value to getting this package?

thanks

From their own description in the narrative of the The Director's SFX it is meant to be used as a reference that you dip into at appropriate chapters rather than a linear training tool like Hollywood camera works. There are lots of subject areas (all SFX) and it's meant to bring a Director up to speed quickly on that chosen topic.

They had a 30% discount at launch so I purchased it and it is a quality product that must have taken years to make - but I can't say that I personally have had value from it at the moment - but if 'one' needed to refer to it once or twice in a project I'm sure it would then quickly pay for itself several times over.
