Just bought a Mac and FCP

Hey guys,
So, I signed on to edit a project, but the director had already captured all of the footage with FCP, making it impossible for me to open the files in Avid on my PC.

I have wanted to get a Mac with FCP on for a while now, mainly because of situations like the one at hand. So, ended up buying an Intel 20" iMac with a dual core 2ghz processor, 2gb ram and a 500gb HDD and Final Cut Studio 2. So, I will run Avid on my PC and FCP on my Mac. The best of both worlds.

I have never used "Color" before, but I love it. I have worked on a Lustre machine a few times and Color has about the same feel and functions.
Nice!

if he recorded it with an hvx to dvcpro HD you could have spent $200 and used raylight to open it. thats what I did when I had the same problem (I edit in Premiere CS3) but I can never say anything bad about buying new equipment

Welcome to mac. Is that Imac upgradeable to 4gb? If so I would consider that high on the to do list.

How fast is the Imac when editing the footage from your canon xh a1?

Any footage that is shot long GOP (groups of pictures) is always going to be more processor intensive. But people have been editing HDV for sometime witthout too much trouble so I am quite sure the newer imacs can get through it quite well.
