I no one gets upset with me not utilizing the search button, but i've been searching all day.

I just bought this camera, it will be here on monday. All of my joy and excitment was replaced when i read that FCE3.5 "may" not support 24p. Does anyone know the definite answer? what about FCE4.0? Are there any loop holes to where i can still edit 24P?

I've burnt every bridge with my wife when it comes to buying this camera..
Someone please help.

You can always edit 24p, not 24A as 29.97 DV NTSC video with FCP 3.5 and earlier. However if you want to edit native at 23.98 you would need FCP 4 or later.

call me crazy but make the best out of your wife curretny being mad and run and pony up to buy final cut studio 2 as soon as posible, fcp 6 is what you need, trust
me, you wont regret it :)

no, i would probably regret it.. My "hobby" is a very touchy subject with her. But I appreciate the advice. I think i might have to bight the bullet for the time being.

I'd go for Sony Vegas Pro 8 instead. Cheaper than FCP - by quite a bit, I understand - perfect for the DVX, and it will do 24p.

You burnt every bridge with your wife in wanting to pursue your dream ?

Leave her.

If you are not in a situation where you have to edit in a 23.98 timeline (and if it's a hobby, I don't see that you would be in that position), stick with FCE for now. I used it for 2 years before upgrading and it served me very well. There are some limitations, but you can edit some kick-ass stuff without the bells and whistles of FCP, especially if you are focused on what matters most, and that's content.

As for the wife advice, don't be rash. Shoot and edit some great stuff and show her that it's more than just a hobby. If you are committed to this, and she still won't listen, then you can call Hudson in to help with marriage counseling

And I was using FCE 2.0.3, often with 24P footage from a DVX. I even did a 40 minute short using that version on an old 800mhz G4. You should be fine.
