Just bought a DVX, my first cam

Well, I've done it. I ordered a DVX100a from Willoughby's this morning (wanted to get from EVS, but as a student that extra few hundred will help with accessories) so I'll officially be joining the proud ranks of DVX users around the world! I am going to try and score an AT897 as soon as I have the cash. I know it's been covered, but for whoever wants to reply- any reccomendations for a good omnidirectional mic to accompany the AT897? I know this is far from a complete sound package, but the proceeds from the sale of my motorcycle will only go so far. It's the best I can do for now.

As an aside, the San Diego Film Festival ended yesterday, but I was able to watch several short films that were shot on the DVX. I was really impressed with the quality of the footage even when blown up for the big screen. I'm nervous (I keep checking my checking accont to see if they've taken the $$ out yet!) but really glad I decided to go for it and get a DVX as opposed to a gl2 or DVC30.

Hopefully you'll be seeing more of me on the forum soon, posing stupid and grossly overasked questions about how to use my new cam. I've been reading this forum for months and it's an awesome resource. Thanks to all of you for the education.

Power to the people!

Enjoy your new camera and glad that you found this site, there is a lot of great information here!

Congratulations, enjoy your camera, but always remember, a camera is just a tool. It is what you do with it that is important. Experiment, take chances, push the limits! Learn what you can from others, then do what you feel is right and only accept what looks good to you.

Are you going to get the Barry Greens book/dvd on the Dvx? I hear it's good and a must haev for any DVX users, I'm going to get my copy very soon!

You are of course quite right. It's nice to know that I will soon have a tool that will be less limiting to what I can accomplish than my own lack of knowledge and experience is.

Love your quote- Orson Welles is a big hero of mine.

Thanks for the encouragement,

Yup, since Willoughby's is an authorized dealer, they're part of the promotion that includes Barry's awesome (from what I've read) book and dvd. I don't know how I'll be able to get any classwork done once the cam comes, i'm going to be reading the book and watching the dvd and playing with it 24-7.
