Just a thank you...

This month marks my 1 year on dvxuser and I can say unequivocally that the combined collective of knowledge here has increased my skill set substantially. It is very appreciated and I hope I can give back at times as much as I get from here.

I remember a time before message boards, when communication happened with actual relay calls between bulletin boards. Trying to get questions answered back then was like trying to pull teeth with your bare fingers. I think some people might not fully appreciate just how awesome a collective like this is. Not that trial and error aren't still the best learning tools, but coming on here and asking questions can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in mistakes.

It's collective trial and error.
A lot of the stuff we learn here was paid for by someone else's mistakes.
:)

Yeah, wish I'd have come here BEFORE I bought a D90 long ago. That was my most expensive 'want to use as a video capture device' mistake. Although, truth be told, I gave it to my fiancee who uses it with her telescope. It takes WAY BETTER pictures of space then my 7D (as I tried both) so she is VERY happy with it.

Now to hook up the AF100 when it gets a little warmer to the telescope. I want some nice moon video :)

I miss the name grimepoch. What was the story behind that?

I miss it too, especially once I realized it was grim epoch and not grime poch- lol!
First the face, then the name... what's next??? Next thing you know, me and the pug will be coming out...

Happy anniversary grim...er... Rick!

Hahaha!

Well, a long time ago I was creating a band name for some darker music I was doing and came up with the name Grim Epoch. This is back when mp3.com was alive and kicking. I think I released one horrible song under than name (as I was still learning a lot about music). Grim Epoch of course being a dark time in history.

Years later, what ends up happening is everyone reads the name as grime pooch. :) Which of course, made me laugh a little as it reminded me of the industrial band skinny puppy. I've used the name for a long time and use it for other stuff as well, but, I feel it is time to retire the name.

Given I am actually out there meeting a lot of new people and getting involved with other people's projects, I got tired of "Hey, I am grimepoch, but I am also Rick Burnett" so I wanted to make it easier for people to know one person, and, to put a name behind all the crap I stir up every once in awhile. That way, when you see me in person, you can say "OH! You're THAT guy!" :P

But on a serious note, having a billion different monikers doesn't help from my own marketing standpoint. I've decided my own name is good enough and I don't have to be a 'Richard Bachman' anymore. But I do promise to keep it in my signature for awhile. In fact, I am making a graphic as well and putting it there.

And yeah, where does the time go!!! :)

Hahahah, the whole time I was reading it as "grime pooch" in my mind. (That's right up there with that Dutch guy Mattin who posts here often.:grin: )

Next thing you know, me and the pug will be coming out...
The closest I've come to coming out is my name (website) in the sig. :Drogar-Kriz(DBG):
