Jurassic Park IV

Yeah --

DO NOT: Blame Spielberg for JP3
DO: Blame Spielberg for having a kid use the power of gymnastics to fight off raptors

One idea from the original book that needs to be brought to the screen is the raft scene. Forget people on motorcycles outrunning raptors. That type of stuff was in Lost World anyhow with the hunting scene and the race through the city. I'd also like to see the "chameleon" dinos from the Lost World book come into play.

If I were doing JP4 I'd have Lex and Tim grown up and inheriting all of Hammond's stuff. Have them visit his islands with intentions of building resorts or something. Lex is scared of Dinos but Tim convinces her that InGen destroyed/moved them all blah blah blah. They find out otherwise when they stumble upon an unknown/secret InGen facility. Dino carnage ensues! But I digress...

Wife & I saw War Of The Worlds ... weren't impressed with it. Walked out kind of numb from the experience. JPIV would be good to see.

I've never understood why Spielberg always gets the hammer. This kid was always way beyond the pack. With Lucus, they did some pretty groovy **** the last couple decades! Yes, they do a ton of fluff **** for the masses - 1000 billion later speaks for itself. It is as much a money game as it art. The first Jurassic Park was ground breaking - period. Today it's a CSI episode, but when it rolled out it was some amazing ****.

Lest we forget

Jaws - Low budget at it's best - Blockbuster

Raiders of the Lost Ark - Nuff said

Schindler's List - Art

Great work!

90% fluff for sure - but still serious talent
[IMHO] <<

I believe Jaws actually cost quite a lot of money for the time. I've heard budgets between 6 and 12 million dollars and that was in 1975.

If he were to make JPIV badass, then he'd have to make it the darkest and scariest dinosaur movie of all time. JPIII wasn't that great because the dinosaurs weren't as spectacular to look at the third time around. I wasn't scared and I didn't have that same "wow" feeling as the JP.

He needs to make it incredibly dark and horrific where it makes people **** their pants. I know he's capable, but can he rise to the challenge?

The JAWS budget was considered high in the category (Suspense/horror film) but not terribly high for a film made in 1975 and was not at all considered a big budget by Hollywood standards. In todays world Jaws would cost only $40 Million to make (Adjusted)

The orginal budget as I understand it was $7,000,000. The film went grossly Overbudget and ballooned to almost $12,000,000 (I too have heard conflciting numbers: from $4 million to $9 million during production)

Hollywood's average film-budget in the mid-70's was around $5,000,000.

Here's a wonderful article on JAWS and it's influence on todays Studios

In contrast; it's widest release was barely a paultry 700 theatres. So, I have to agree with Dakota's general take.

As far as Jurassic is concerned? I love the franchise. When else can we see Dino's running around and eating people. I thought Part 3 was better than Part 2 (Again, the gymnastics just kill it for me). I always say 'They gotta get the island; that is tired'. Maybe bring it into the badlands or something.

I actually only bought "The Lost World" because buying the two in a set was only $5 more than JP by itself -- at the time. I never watch it, but I do like Pete Postletwhaite.
