Junked Tape?

Hey there. I have a DVCPro 50 tape that I think might be junk.
Here is a snap shot of what it looks like on playback:

I have tried different tapes in the deck so I know it isn't the deck. I tried fwd all the way to the end and then rwd, multiple times/different ways. manually tightened it. And the tape that was shot in that same camera right after the bad tape is totally fine. I don't know if there is some magic trick for bad tapes or something? I know this is probably a hard thing to diagnose but I just thought I would throw it out there for anyone to check out/answer. Thanks for any info.

One thing you should try is digitizing the tape from the camera it was shot in. If it's ever going to work, it will probably be in the camera it was shot in as the playback heads will be in the exact position as the recording heads were since it's the same camera. If that doesn't work and it's a crucial tape, Noah's DVD suggests taking it to a post house where they can incrementally adjust the heads until it's lining up perfect and dub it off that tape.

I tried playing it back in the camera it was recorded on with no luck. I tried the two others we have also with no change.

Shane, brand new tape. That's whats weird is that we popped a new/different tape in after the bad one and that one is just fine. No sign of anything. And the tape that is bad, is bad through the whole part that was recorded. We tried laying something to that tape after the recorded stuff via the deck and Avid and that recorded and played back just fine. On the same bad tape; but after the bad stuff. It's almost like there was a hunk of dirt or something when it got recorded and then it knocked loose once we ejected it. But it already did it's damage.

It isn't mission critical, thankfully. I just thought if there was some magical trick like rubbing it on the carpet in a clockwise motion would like demagnetized it or something. Oh well just thought I would have some other people's eyes take a look at it just in case it was something common for some reason. Thanks

But I don't think it's the deck. Cause we can play back other tapes just fine. Plus we did try just a regular head cleaner and that didn't seem to make a difference. I think the tape is just toast.

Every now and then a bad tape creeps thru. I have seen this more than once back when we shot Beta and Digibeta.
