Saw it last night, thought it was great. Some awesome super-subtle performes mixed with some almost over-the-top (but reeled-in just enough) performances that somehow worked beautifully together. Does anyone know if this was shot on 16mm (I should try to research myself); it looked like it might have been.

Movie explored some great themes - the attraction (both sexual and general) of things foreign to your experience and, therefore, exotic; the tension between individual autonomy and family influence; cultural and geographic tensions and barriers; and blah, blah, blah (insert more pretentious babble here).

Maybe I liked this so much because I could relate to the cultural/geographic tensions in the movie. I grew up in Tennessee and am now living in Chicago. I also enjoyed the good-natured (and deserved) jabs it seemed to take at the visual art world as an art-school grad myself. Anyhow, highly recommeded in my book. Here's the trailer for anyone interested.

The film looks great. It's not playing in my area yet, and probably will never be, so I'll have to wait for the DVD.

(Hopefully that will get rid of some of those crickets.) :)
