jump to Vegas Pro 13 to fix frozen footage?

I'm on Vegas Pro 12. I'm editing footage from a 4k shoot. When I play the footage on my desktop it plays nicely but when I drop it onto my Vegas timeline it freezes. The audio still keeps playing but the picture would freeze and then jump a few frames and freeze again. It makes it very hard to edit. I wonder if it is Vegas issue or is it my computer issue? I wonder if I jump up to Vegas Pro 13 if that will solve the problem?

I have to use Rocky Mountain to convert my files from H265 to H264. I'm shooting on the NX1 4k.

Does anyone know if there will be a Vegas Pro 14?

Since you are transcoding, why not transcode to an edit friendly codec like Prores or even mjpeg? Jumping to a new version of the software is unlikely to fix your problem, I'd throw money at a better video card first. That said, I'm not real familiar with Vegas.

You didn't say what you have the preview window set at: preview/draft/best? The lower settings will play smoother but with poorer preview quality/will not affect actual output.

If you haven't tried it yet, you can create proxy files in Vegas and then render the final version using the actual 4K files. Proxies will permit smoother editing, with less resolution than if actual 4K quality.. But the end result is the same.
