Jump from Mac to Windows?

Hi I'm currently running Adobe Production Premium CS6 on a 2009 27 inch iMac. 2.66 Core i5, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB, 12gig RAM.
My workflow is mainly based on 1080p DSLR H.624 and AVCHD footage. I spend a lot of time compositing in After Effects and MochaAE and then editing with Premiere.
My imac is starting to feel a bit long in the tooth with stuttered playback from the timeline in Premiere.

I can't afford a new iMac so I'm thinking of getting a Windows Based tower which I can upgrade over time. Adobe and Imagineer have told me that I can crossgrade my licenses to Windows.

I can get a 3.6 GHz i7 Ivy bridge based tower with 16Gig DDR3 RAM, a 1TB SATA3 HDD, a 120 GB SSD, and a GEFORCE GT560Ti (1GB DDR5) Graphics card for £840.00 delivered. (around 1350 dollars). Thats half the price of an upgraded iMac.

Would I feel a difference in performance with a machine of this spec when compared to my 2009 iMac. If so where would the differences be most apparent.

I look forward to hearing you thoughts.

I don't think you would see any performance issues, I've got a Mac Pro 2009, which I've got Windows 7 and OSX on and frankly I think Adobe stuff runs better under Windows.

Yes you will feel a performance difference. The Windows box will be much faster at everything.

I'm curious as to why this isn't apparent to you.

You forgot to say which I-mac you have. None the less you'll feel the difference everywhere. In AE, you'll be editing most comps faster and at higher res. Brush, erase, clone, all very much realtime.
In Premiere, well now you have a Video Card that with CUDA support can accelerate these functions: http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprot...y-playback-engine-and-adobe-premiere-pro.html

Your I-Mac, as a Core 2Duo was old tech even 3 years ago. Mac does put some magic in their machines, but Your New machine sounds like a charm! Enjoy!

I switched to PC myself and built my own system.

CS6 screams on windows and I edit 4k footage in realtime with no problems.
