Julie Delpy Slams The Academy

Whilst I agree 90% of Hollywood movies are crap, taking a shot at Harvey Weinstein for the lack of independent movies is a bit rich given his long track record working some of the more creative and challenging filmmakers working today and over the last thirty years.

Maybe she thought of him as being symbolic of successful rich men who could use their power to promote more quality cinema but instead spend part of their time producing "Halloween III" and "Piranha 3DD". Imagine how frustrating it must be for successful oscar nominated women to see films such as this get financed but not their ideas.

Maybe so, but I think that's unfair; whilst Piranha 3DD might have been utter tosh, in the same year he was also EP on Django Unchained and Silver Lining's Playbook. If she'd taken aim at Michael Bay she'd have my full support.

Just a note: Delpy isn't quoted as singling out Weinstein, which creates at least some doubt that she actually did.

If Julie Delpy wants more independent movies and less crap no one is stopping her from getting out there and producing a movie.

The opposite way to go about this, and I think the way that will actually produce results, is to praise the independent films you like instead of criticizing the Hollywood crap you don't like. One way is negative, and creates more negativity. One way is positive, and brings more positive results to you.
