Juicedlink

I've no idea how and why but I've ended up surfing to the Juicedlink website which is a firm that I'm knowing for the first time.

I don't know about you but I saw that video review comparing it to the SD mixpre and it if it does what it's shown there it is REALLY amazing for it's price tag!

The question is... Does it really do what the video suggests it does? Does it have less noisier amps than SD mixpre? I find that hard to believe but if it so it's a good addition not only to camcorders but to any sound recorder like Tascam, Fostex, and Edirol!

Any feedback regarding this will be appreciated.

The MixPre is a different class of mixer than the juicedLink. It has line level XLR outputs, intended to drive line inputs of recorders, etc. You can use the MixPre to drive balanced XLR signals long distances.

The juicedLink output is an amplified mic level, intended for the mic inputs on smaller camcorders (or mic level inputs on recorders as well). It is only intended to drive a very short distance to a mic level input.

The intention of the comparison videos is to show the principle of reducing camcorder noise through the use of low-noise preamps, when recording fine audio detail. You can't take advantage of the principle of throttling back the noisy camcorder amps to get a better overall signal-to-noise ratio if you're using a passive-type adapter (or adapter with poor preamps). You hear that using the MixPre or the juicedLink yields better results than the passive adapters (or adapters with poor preamps) in these cases.

So, both the juicedLink and MixPre have very good preamps, but they are intended for different markets/applications.

Hi RERozak,

Thanks for the info. I'm assembling a whole new kit for my filmmaking needs.
I mostly do documentaries and I've invested in some gear now but ended up realizing that it's way too heavy kit for continues shoulder work (XH-A1 + 35mm adapter plus all the bits), so I'm planning to buy a Sony HC9 (the main reason being the LANC port with is a must for me) to go with the adapter and all the bits.

I was thinking how I could drive good reference sound to it, since I have my sound operator working with a Tascam HD-P2 and the Juicedlink seems a good option.

About your DVX signature, I've realized that you probably are the Juicedlink developer, so I'll contact you via forum or your website when I definitely put to mind to buy a mixer.

Thanks
