Juiced Link preamp vs ZoomH6 for DSLR audio

Thinking of upgrading from my current Zoom h4n. I mostly record direct in to the mic input on my 5D and now 1DC.
I rarely have any need for recording back up audio.

Instead of getting the H6, was considering the juicedlink preamp.

Has anyone reading this purchased the juicedlink and can comment?

Generally, DSLRs don't have very good audio quality.. no matter what one uses for a front-end.
The Juicedlink preamp would be suitable for a traditional type camera.
Don't know anything about the 1DC, if it's a DSLR, I would expect poor audio quality.
This goes for most budget 'cinema' cameras as well. The REDs for instance. Not as bad as a DSLR, but pretty awful, despite the specs stating 48/24.

Would disagree

Scroll to 17:50 where dual audio is discussed.

But that's a manufacturer's video trying to sell you their gear. You have to look at real world application.

Can you get audio onto a DSLR? Yup. Is it as good as recording dual system? Nope. I don't know any professional shooters or professional audio people that use the DSLR audio as the main audio. It's always a scratch track. Sometimes they don't even put audio on the DSLR.

If you really want to "up" your audio game, get a Sound Devices MixPreD. You can run an output into your camera for a scratch track and then take the audio main outputs into a small recorder as your main recorder. I'd go with something like a 702 or used 744t. You can find those used for pretty cheap these days since the 633 came out.

Can you tell us what type of shoots you do and what mic you are using now? There's a slew of options and most of them involve attaching to your camera. Does it matter if it's a little bit cumbersome?

I have to agree with Rick & Dave. But hey, if you and your clients are happy with the audio quality you get from your DSLR cameras, what do you care what we think?
