join clips together (make 2 clips into one)

I'm sure this is easy for you guys... but how do you go about making 2 clips on your timeline into 1 clip?

As an example -- one scene was broken into 2 clips when camera switched to the second P2 card, after the first became full.

I'm adjusting brightness, etc. on the first clip, but then when the second clip comes around on the timeline, it is -- of course -- unaffected by the brightness changes which had been made to the first clip, making for a jarring transition to the second clip.

Thanks in advance for your help!

There's really no need to join the clips. Simply copy and paste your filters (color corrector) from one clip to the next and it will apply the same thing to the new clip.

Thanks for that... but could you also tell me how to join clips together in future cases in which that may become more important?

You can nest the two clips together. It's found under Sequence menu. Guys, don't worry about this. It's a NLE right? If you're really want to make it one clip, use quicktime pro to make it one clip and reimport into FCP.

You don't even need to use Quicktime Pro. Just export the sequence in FCP as a Quicktime Movie File and then reimport that back into FCP and it becomes 'one' clip.

When you are making color correction/brightness/contrast/etc. adjustments to one clip and you want to do it to multiple clips:
1) Copy that clip that has all the filters you want to match.
2) Select all clips you want to add those exact filters to.
3) Ctrl-click on the selected clips and choose Paste Attributes.

Viola!

Thanks for all the help. Good answers...

But ARAVANCE, what if the clip you are wanting to copy the filter attributes from has those attributes on a timeline (can't remember the right word for it... when at one point I've got the brightness set higher, but a few moments later I bring it back down, etc. all on one clip, but different settings at different times)? Which filter settings would you be pasting into the second clip if they are not uniform across the clip you are copying from?

Make sense?

Are you talking about clips that have keyframing to adjust the filters throughout the clip? I can't pull up FCP right now, but I would say that you would probably either be pasting the exact same attributes to other clips....OR it might very well be possible for you to just bring the default filters over and leave the keyframing behind at the Paste Attributes prompt screen by unchecking certain boxes. I'm not sure if there is one on there for keyframing, but you should check it out.
