Hey for those who are John Woo fans, I just recieved my two dics DVD (A Better Tomorrow I and II) for only $19.95 plus shipping at DVDAsian.com. Not Bad at all. For those who haven't seen 'A Better Tomorrow', SEE IT! One of the best ganster movies ever! This set is ENGLISH dubbed so you don't have to read subtitles ;D. Must have for any DVD collections.

:o ::) ??? :P :-[ >:( :'(

What "smiley" icon do you use for "shock, speechless, disappointment, hurt, anger, blasphemy, ..." to that comment?

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

LOL

I can't stand whenever Woo goes to an action scene. It reminds me of the A Team. Horrible action director; he does tension extremely well. His action scenes are like TNT movies. Bad stuff.

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

Woo's american fare is quite lame...although broken arrow wasn't terrible. Take a look at some of the sequences in Hard Boiled, that stuff is amazing.

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

What can I say. I'm a sucker for cheesy action fluff. Face/Off was a blast. And I thought he made some cool imagery in Windtalkers. But again, I'm a sucker for the action fluff. ;D

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

How can you not like a director that works water, fire, slow-motion, and doves into EVERY film he's ever done? ;D

Woo is one of my all-time favorite action directors as long as you keep it to his Hong Kong stuff. His US work is not all that great IMO. Although I do have a guilty pleasure in M:I 2 ;)

A Better Tomorrow is a great film and I would recommend it to almost anyone. A Better Tomorrow 2 is a good film, but the whole catatonic orange-eating scene is a little much. The ending is amazing though.

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

Man i watched both A Better Tomorrow I and II last night. The first one i saw in the theater when it came out and back in the 80's i was in aww. Saw it again last night and it was still great but part II wasn't up to my expectation. krestofre, i was thinking the same thing when i saw the orange-eating scene. I was like what the F is this? ???

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

Guilty....I to love MI2. Plus cruise did his own stunts so you have to appreciate that!

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

To be fair; I do not dislike 'every-single-film' Woo has done:

I like: Mission: Impossible II and Face Off were wonderfully entertaining and I am not familiar with his previous work in Hong Kong.

I'm one of those 'filmmakers' who wants to use Slow-Mo NEVER in an action scene but only in slow scenes.

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

I'd argue that Woo *mostly* uses Slo-mo appropriately in action sequences, but I certianly understand the school of thought that says action scenes are for ... well, action. :)

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

I think the problem is that the slow motion cool **** has been mimicked way too much and heavily overused and now it's lost its snaz

Re: John Woo Film (A Better Tomorrow)

That's a good point. It's like bullet time. It was cool in the Matrix, but now it's like "Oh, bullet time, great." Or even moreso when Willow invented the morph. How many morphs have we had to watch since that movie?
