A very nicely filmed and lit commercial:

The behind the scenes also is very revealing of the cinematography and lighting tricks.

Am I being a picky @$$hole because on the BTS video I couldn't get past them not taking 30 seconds to run the mic cable inside a shirt instead of just laying it on the outside and clipping it?

But yes, nice commercial.

No, you're not. It jumped right off the screen at me too.

It's an adorable spot, the girl is perfect, but I actually prefer the punchier color grade in the BTS.

Awww... This is a very very sweet spot. Just wonderful.

Probably the best commercial featuring a kid I've ever seen. I really love this.

Good on everyone involved - it's wonderful!

--I too think they could have eased WAY BACK on the washed out green color grade. I really don't understand what people are thinking when they do that kind of stuff. What exactly do they think the viewer is thinking? "Oooh, look at how magical it looks!"???
Uh...no. Everyone is just thinking "Why is the color off?"

Yes, really great ads featuring kids - the UK does it best... Crikey, must have taken ages to cast kitten Bronte from amongst so many at drama kitty.

However, I am really posting in response to the comments about the Lav mic cable in the BTS of the marketing lady. It's very likely the BTS audio crew did not have female hands to "dress" the mic up through the clothing. Also very likely the marketing lady said no, just hang it - it's fine. I have in the past been in this position and you roll with what you have and with what you get. Nonetheless for me it didn't detract from the BTS interest - you guys :) You're too picky, but certainly not a $ $ h o l e $ :)

That washed out green 70's film look seems to be very in vogue at the moment and several recent BBC drama's have it too.

I suppose it is a stylised look but I think it has more to do with 8mm than anything else.

I once upset a BBC director as I was dubbing a promo to advertise a weekend of JAWS movies and I said that his 8mm swimming pool footage looked very good! Of course it was actually 35mm but I then really upset him as his attempts to record some underwater sounds by putting a mic inside a plastic bag were deemed totally un-useable.

Oh well he probably directed that Tiny Dancer Promo!

John Lewis have always been a great company in the UK and all of their employees are shareholders too.

They are top notch for customer service, quality with technical advice second to none. Their sales slogan "never knowingly undersold" means if you find the item you want cheaper elsewhere they will refund you the difference.

Their TV adverts are always superb and top quality.

I have bought numerous items from them since the early 80's and their shops are always a pleasure to browse around.
