John Hillcoat's The Road

Just saw the Road last night in theaters. Have to say it really depressed me but after about 24 hours it got under my skin. I noticed some pretty amazing symbolism in the story (wont give spoilers here) but the 2 different basement scenes were very symbolic.

Viggo did a phenomenal job as well and there is an impressive Robert Duvall cameo. I recommend it.

One of the most stark films I ever seen. You should read the story on the making of the film. Seldom do producers pray for cloudy rainy days but these were the primary shoot days on The Road.

I found the moments of warmth and color in the film to be like catching your breath.

I completely agree. The flashbacks were the only thing that kept me from cutting my wrists.

I finished the book the week before Christmas, and it too was a wrist slitter. Phenomenal story, though.

We were talking about the book versus the movie. The difference with the book was you could take a break from horror. With the movie you just had to take it for 2 hours.
