Job suggestions

Hey there.

So i have just been offered a filming opportunity to actually make some money. This would be a first. I am filming a dance recital and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me. I have filmed events like this before but i have never worked with a customer before, most has just been for school. I am using a Sony DSR-300 if that opens up any suggestions. Should i us ezmode or set my own manual settings? And i will be filming for about 2 hours and i figure the editing and making a dvd will take about 2-3. I am not exactly sure what a decent price for that would be and i don't want to be taken advantage of.

If you're serious about your camera work, use manual settings. Never trust another person's preset suggestions for how to shoot your gig.

If it's only a one camera shoot, the best you can do is to lock the camera off on a tripod and get used to following action on the end of your lens.

2 hours of footage makes for about 5-6 hours of editing, and maybe a touch more for DVD. That's in my experience at least.

Give the customer a ballpark for how much money you want, and let him talk you down a bit to where you really expect to be paid. That makes you seem more lenient while still earning you the money you want.

I don't think anybody can really tell you the exact price to ask for though, since we are all out of context. Make sure they cover expenses like gas, tapes, DVD, computer stress, etc.
