JJ Abrams confirmed to direct Star Wars VII

The more I think about it, the more I think "let it go." I have no great desire to see Luke, Leia, and Han as grandparents.

I wonder what JJ did the day he officially signed on? What do you go do when you realize you're going to helm the next Star Wars movie? Go home and spend time with your wife? Drink? Both? I mean seriously...I'm making a joke here but I'm dead serious, what would you do LOL? I would lose my mind, probably more with fear then with glee...

I especially don't think you'd be getting bang for your buck. I"m sure they'll demand big salaries and the money could be better used on sets, wardrobe, etc.

I actually do want to see Luke as an older Jedi. That has interesting possibilities. Han, as I've mentioned, is not someone I want to see old. And Leia, well, Carrie really hasn't aged well at all. And she hasn't distinguished herself much as an actress these past 30 years. But I'm hoping the story rests more on new characters and isn't some old folks nostalgia trip. Some of this news isn't encouraging though.

Which one of the three characters will die first, and in which of the three films will the death happen? And how will it happen?

On a separate topic, I would love to see actually produce the three films consecutively (with a break of at least a year or two between actual production) as opposed to concurrently. I doubt that will happen though.

If Luke comes back as an old Jedi... I hope he gets in shape (start NOW)... it reminds me of the return of Marion in the last Raiders flick... next to Harrison Ford she looked too old and out of shape.

That said... I hope they don't go too far in the other direction. I read a review of modern movies (a general blog) a while back that complained of the overly perfect characters in modern film. Like on CSI, etc. (or any movie) the scrappy young dude is a GQ model that we're supposed to believe is joe-blow kid struggling to find his place in the world. I hope they cast the new franchise with some decent looking, but not perfect, characters.

As for JJ? I liked the last Star Trek... if that's an indication of what he'll bring... I'm for it.

It's almost hard to believe these are the same people.

I didn't even recognize him in the preview for this movie:

He's gotta get in shape to be a Jedi, even if he's a Jedi Master. But then again if I had the force I would just sit around getting fat all day.

How many blog posts and articles online can you guess have been created by this picture alone? How many fan boys are trying to decipher why the script is red and what it means for the series and characters. How many fan boys are commenting on how fancy the scripts look and why that means Abrams shouldn't be directing. Then how many other fan boys will be correct these people while showing off their knowledge on Draft Colors for hollywood scripts?

I just find this whole thing to be a farce. I love Star Wars and I do check in from time to time, but the speculation, rumors upon rumors, and the overenthusiasm, and possible frustration with Abrams at the helm, has me wanting to fly to Degobah and hide in a Hutt until it's all over, or until there's more concrete news... like a trailer and actual synopsis.

Who care what Mark Hamill looks like now? They can use his voice and create a virtual version of him to insert into the movie over his real visage, similar to Jeff Bridges battling his younger self in the Tron sequel.

It must be really, really bad if you want to hide in a Hutt.

I just saw the latest Star Trek (at the dollar theater on film projection) and I was surprisingly annoyed by the flares. Maybe too many low budget music videos using them.

There were also a ton of lens flares in that film. Almost like when South Park tried to use as many curse words as possible. Who knows, maybe it was almost a challenge for them?

The lens flare thing is funny, I watch Hesher, and the camera op would occasionally go out of his/her(Tommy Lohmann?) way to get some lens flare. it was funny, I could imagine them straining to get the angle just right and then settle into that sweet spot where the flare dances.
