Jittery 24p Clip

I'm putting together a few different clips for a presentation in the morning. Two of the avi's were shot 30p and the third was shot 24p. I stuck all three clips on a standard NTSC project timeline. They all looked great (from the timeline) on both the computer monitor and my NTSC monitor. I exported the entire timeline using 'no fields'. I then brought it into Encore and built a DVD.

Here's the problem, the final project on DVD plays the two 30p clips fine but the 24p clip jitters when there's motion.

Can anyone feed me some input on the problem here.

Thanks,
Joe

I would edit in a 29.97 timeline. Make sure that my 24p footage shows up as 29.97(Premiere should do this by default). And try using lower fields first.

A simple fix-- I used Lower Field First as you suggested and it did correct it. This is the frustrating part of video editing-- some things just don't make sense?? Part of this business requires you to be a professor of video technology!

Thanks,
Joe

My video shows up in the bin as 23.967 and when I right click to interpret footage, the remove 24p pulldown is greyed out. How would you go about taking a final project and doing the re-insert pulldown you mention?

Gee, "Z", enlighten us to your amazement. We're all ears!

My apologies Joe, this is a help forum and that wasn't very nice. It's just that this is the one subject that has been discussed the most on this site, "Jittery 24p." I've been encouraged to search the forum before starting a new thread, and you would be amazed, as i am, that this topic has already been covered 5200 times. It's called redundant frames, duplications of every 4th. Meaning every 5th frame in sequence needs to be removed to get the best looking 24 p "material" or else the results may be this. And its done by the process called pulldown removal. That wasn't called for so im sorry, I am a trouble maker.

Not a problem-- apology accepted. But here's what seems to be the million dollar question in this thread-- how is pulldown removal done? I have yet to see anything in any menus that state "pulldown removal." I researched Adobe's help files but got no help! Possibly some of us new to 24p know it as something different?? Can you walk some of us through this process-- in my case I'm using Premiere Pro 2.0.

Thanks!
Joe

You don't have to worry about pulldown removal unless you're in a 24p project, and when you are, Premiere Pro 2.0 detects and removes pulldown automatically.

If you're editing in a 60i (29.97) project, you don't WANT to remove pulldown; you need pulldown in order to be at the correct framerate.

If you're going out to a 29.97 DVD, which is what you need to do if you 29.97 footage like 30p, you don't want to export it as progressive. But that's OK if you're editing in 60i, because all the footage is already what you need it to be.
