A Rover Auxillary Box costs half as much.

Unfortunatley, no pictures. Looks like an aircraft part, in that it has knock out holes along the sides. Not sure why Video Smith no longer shows it on their site, but they do still sell it.

That's what I use. I just got the Bogen 577 quick release adapter and made a sandwich. The base on top, then the bracket, followed by the quick release plate.
Now I can rapidly deploy, and break down.
The box would be nice for hard drives recorders, still leaving the hot shoe free for a sun gun.
