Hey,

I use a dvc30, im in highschool and dont have too much to spend :( , and am looking for a crane.
I know that this topic has been brought up kinda alot, but only the expensive ones have been talked about.

I have my eye on either the Cobra Crane BackPacker, and the Cobra Crane 1. I know these are amall, but i dont need anything big.

Has any one used these, does any one know of other ones around $300?

Have you thought about building your own crane? I know that when I was in HS, I drew up some plans to build one. I never got around to it, but I still plan on trying. You could probably put something together for under 300, if you have some technical skills.
 
yeah, i know theres a bunch of plans on ebay for like 5 bucks, but i dont know about those.... anyway, i might end up building one. i know tracks are super easy to build so...

The Cobracrane 1 is actually very good for the price. You can get surpisingly smooth tilts with it, and the 3ft extension is worth another 100 bucks IMO. No pan though, of course.

But bear in mind that you will also need an adequate tripod and head to use it properly--which will probably cost more than the CC1 itself. And some kind of monitor. The weight of the CC1 will chew up a flimsy tripod very quickly. Those additional costs sound like they will push it out of budget range.

Building one is possible and could be fun. If you only have a couple hundred bucks, I would say just build one and save your money up for future purchases.
