JIB shots

Hello,

I was wondering how hard it was to learn how to operate and be decent at using a JIB. I have a local commercial coming up and I was thinking using a JIB to get some cool shots but I do not have a budget for a real JIB/operator nor have I ever used one. Since renting a JIB is obtainable, I am planning giving it a shot. I'm thinking of renting it a day in advance and practaciing before the shoot. Is this a good idea or will I be wasting my money? I'm sure pro JIB operators will tell me so but like I said..no budget. Also, what JIB is the best to rent for this case? Something that is easy to use, transport, setup for a newbie.

thanks!
J

It's just one of those things that just takes practice. The more you work with one, the better you will be. Personally, I got the hang of it pretty quickly. As long as you set it up properly and make sure its balanced, should should have no problem picking up the basics in a day's time. Nice jib shots can really make your work shine. If all you get out of it is that one money shot, it'll be worth it. I say go for it.

Something like the Cobra Crane or the Kessler crane is good for starters.
