Jib, crane whatever--Harbor Freight

:) It's not all that bad. You could use it as an engine hoist or something radical like that.

lol its somewhat of a learning experience?
you had an idea.. it didn't fly. learn from it and come up with better ideas next time

That would be useful to tak emy steadicam cases out of the car. But id need another crane to get this crane out the car first... And probably another one to take that one out... Its abit of a paradox situation...

Texanite, you've got a great point.
I figured it out that I could get it to boom up 6 feet if I extend the arm out 117 feet and 3 inches. And that would only add another 43 pounds to the unit!

Awesome. It's a no-brainer then. :)

LOL. I want to watch Sek feverishly pump that hydralic jack to get his smooth 6' shot.

Talking about wight.
That kind of cherry pickers can lift up to 1 ton.
So you have to compare them to big platform cranes that carry 2 persons and not to 30 lbs lightwight jibs.

Every machine shop could attach a 2 seat plattform and a extension for $500 - $1000 to it and it would be a steal.

But Gage is right, the smoothness is the problem, not the wight.
Without a hydraulic compressor your lost.

Maybe the use of one of these should just be for static shots? No up/down or side/side, it would probably not be smooth enough as Postmaster said, but just for static stuff it could work great.

Put a hi-hat up there - or, if there is a hole, a 100mm half-bowl direct to the top for a smaller camera.
