Jarhead Trailer

Holy **** this looks great; is this the first real war film of the modern era? If it's as near as good as the Trailer it will be.

Thanks for the link.

Hmmm... looks more like Three Kings than Black Hawk Down... which isn't a bad thing.

Looks like a combination almost. I love both of those films (BHD and 3K). Sam Mendez kicks ass.

Add a bit of Buffalo soldiers there too. And, yeah, Mendez is cool, though I hated American Beauty

is this the new film Murch used fcp to edit?

Hey, you are right. Walther Murch is editor and since it's his first feature since Cold Mountain, it must be the one edited in Final Cut he talked about sometime ago.

You know, I was probably just too young to get it in 1999. Not a movie for 14 year old, but I've never had a desire to see it again since then. Maybe I should give it a try sometime. But I do remember it was beautifuly shot, which isn't news, of course... what a man was Conrad Hall.

About Buffalo Soldiers connection. I guess it's because of how at some points in the trailer the war is shown as something too ordinary (once again, similar to Three Kings too), but most importantly - first person narration. That's probably what reminded me of BS, which I just saw recently.

I understand. Maybe you should watch it again. I can see where a 14 year old might not be into it (not a dis on you; I didn't like The Godfather until I was an adult).

It is cynical and dark. But I love it. It represents Middle America pretty good IMHO.

This looks friggin' sweet. Cool to see Mendes stretching as a director. And cool to see a war movie that on the surface doesn't deal with patriotism.

Good observation Issac.

Not the typical Mendez flaire as of late? Seems Sam has been around forever and IMDB has this: (only 2 Theatricals prior)

Jarhead 2005
Road to Perdition 2002
American Beauty 1999

Good to see he doesnt rush films. Maybe why his **** shines.

looks like a gold to me. its like has all my fav things in it.

Modern war
Donnie Darko
Sam Mendes
jamie Foxx (I've liked him since like always)

I love war and combat. My brother was in this war (communications - 67th signal battalion). I've been waiting for a legitimate modern combat film (Love Black Hawk Down by the way; that's pretty damn real as much as I can tell)

I can't wait for this film as well. I want to see what it has to say about the Gulf War. I don't know if it's liberal leaning or very Gung-Ho crappy tripe like we were soldiers. Besides, the greatest war film ever made is The Thin Red Line. I remember when i first saw it - i hated it. After a second viewing it all clicked in place. What we need
