It Looks like he's recording some video of miniature's to me.

And his next film is "Battle Angel" Which he said will not take nearly as long since he has the technology perfected.

I was wondering if he was sort of video storyboarding, or lining up shots to show the camera dept. or even lining up shots to show the EFX team that might model based on it.

I know shooting with the RED, we used my D90 to set up shots and look at lighting set-ups before bringing out the whole rig. Also Timur and I have done the same thing for a long time. He would bring out the 5D, set it to be like the HVX, or whatever, and we would look at set-ups, or talk through shots with that, because it's so much easier to deal with than the rig.
