Jackie Brown

I own all of QT's DVD's and will have KILL BILL manana.  I love Jackie Brown and in fact, it is my favorite of the FOUR films by QT.  Everytime I watch it I like it more and more and more.  A critic said something that made sense:

Get over JACKIE BROWN not being PULP FICTION and what you thought it was going to be and take it for what it is.  I think the cast is amazing (Forrester, Grier, Jackson, DeNiro, Tucker, Keaton, Fonda) and the plot is great stuff (Thank you Elmore).   The dialog is every bit as good as Pulp and Dogs.

Melanie: Jesus, but if you two are not the biggest pair of ****-ups I've ever met in my entire life. How did you ever rob a bank? When you robbed banks, did you forget where your car was then too? No wonder you went to jail.

Re: Jackie Brown

Robert Forster has been a favorite of mine since his role as Dan Holland in "The Black Hole" -- the movie which blew my childhood mind like no other (not even SW).

Re: Jackie Brown

Before going to sleep and after a tough night of what you know, I'm very glad to agree with you guys on one point : Jackie's a goddam' motherfucking little bitching film.

The humanest film by Quentin ; my favourite too. No showing off, a good story with deep characters (more than meets the eye) played by geniuses (Michael Keaton's my own personal chouchou).

And, as always with QT, a music track that caresses the angels' cheeks.

Re: Jackie Brown

Exactly.

I love Keatons performance in this. He is great. Cant remember the song name, but when Ordell sticks Beaumont in the trunk? I love that song.

No offense intended, Anartiste. ;)

I bust up laughing trying to picture a french dude saying that line.

Re: Jackie Brown

One thing I love about English is its Meccano logic : the way we can build sentences like that. Snap ! French definitely doesn't allow this kind of game, so I enjoy myself pretty much on this board  :D :D :D :D

Plus it's a good way to improve — I've not learned so much English since... the Joan of Arc affair back in 1431 (I was just a kid then).

Thanks DVXuser.com for that.

There's only a couple of things I really hate about American English :

1/ The Hey-man-every-three-seconds habit ;
2/ The Amaaaaaaazing twitch ;
3/ The ****-instead-of-every-word attitude ;
4/ (my favourite) The American-tourists-talking-to-you-in-English-wherever-they-are-in-the-world-assuming-it's-a-native-language-for-every-human-being act.

As for the rest, you have a wonderful language.

For your entertainment, I'll try to say my sentence in a french way — try to focus on François Truffaut in "Close Encounters" here if you want to truly appreciate the music of it :

Jaquiz a gode dame mozerfeuquine litteul bitchine film (yes, we actually say "film" like you guys — civilization's managed to reach us somehow).

QT would be happy to hear that! He said that with this movie, more than any of his others, he wanted to make a movie where people would love the characters and watch the movie over and over again just to sort of be with them, almost like a comfort type thing (of course, he said it much better than I did.) This is exactly what he had in mind, and while I've only seen the movie once, I think he succeeded marvelously. It was brave of him to make this instead of Pulp Fiction 2 or a rip off of Pulp Fiction, and it's a great movie, too.

Re: Jackie Brown

I bought the first DVD release of this film, and a year later the suckers decided to release the 2-disc DVD.

What a bunch of idiots. I think they do it on purspose.

I bought the pulp fiction one and the true love one again. Just gave away my previous ones to my brother.

Why do they do this?

All the best

Fidel.

Re: Jackie Brown

Cash. Usually release a Special 14 Disc Edition right at the time of a sequel or just to piss us off. I gave my old Black HAwk Down to my bro so I could get the 3 Disc.

Re: Jackie Brown

I think "Jackie Brown" is QT's most adult work. His other films are fun, but have almost nothing to say. "Jackie Brown" is a rumination on getting older.

Re: Jackie Brown

I totally agree with you
After i saw it on christmas day (the opening)
I thought it was his best film and had to see it again, and did
The characters are all awesome
especially Robert Forster, the way he acts without
saying anything

Re: Jackie Brown

Love Love Love this movie! I never thought of the "cozy character" angle but you're right, it is one of those "every human I ran into today pissed me off, I'm gonna go watch Jackie Brown" movies. I'm a huge Samuel L Jackson fan also.

Side note: Where the hell is Anartiste? His last post was June 15th, 2004 (I checked, obsessive compulsive  ;D) I miss his humor around the forum  :-/

Re: Jackie Brown
