I'ven't felt this way since "Grand Prix"(1966)... "Beasts of the Southern Wild"
So, the Wife demanded that we see the 'art' film "Beasts of the Southern Wild"(2012) last night... and while I thought the story was good, the 'acting' given 'non-professional' status of many... was good...
What really put me over the edge was the camera work... most of the film appeared to be hand held... and as such, I became increasingly motion sick as the film wore on, to the point of planning whether to make a hasty exit from the theater to puke in the nearest trashcan, or just use the popcorn bag as a impromptu airsick bag...
Well with some closing of the eyes, barely opening for scene/location changes, etc... I made it through with out puking...
But god... this is a 'well acclaimed' film on the 'art circuit'???
Had the filmmakers put the camera on sticks or had a very stable steadicam platform... I wouldn't be posting my ill will... the story was a 'slice of life' that few people see, so, ok, that's what often comes up in 'art films'.
But the technique was just plain 'awful'... if this gets an Oscar nod... that will make me even sicker...
Oh, yeah, the "Grand Prix"(1966) reference... I first, and have only seen it a couple of times on TV since..., time I saw this film was in a ultrawide screen Cinerama theater, in the front row... and that time I did 'exit the theater' to puke... That was also the last time I sat in the front row for any film presentation...
