i've never heard of a network that doesn't buy a film....what is this?

My film is in the can, and I know these guys show surf films by other producers so what the heck is this?

Unfortunately, FUEL TV does not purchase content for it's network. We
> own 100 percent of the content on the network, so we are unable to do a
> time buy for this.

Who do i need to screw in order to sell my film, or get distribution?

Sounds like they produce it all in-house...wish I knew who to tell you so that you could line up behind me :)

yeah marketing and distribution is a bit of a hassle. no worries though, it's a big world and fuel tv isn't the only network.

Sounds like the deal Scripps has with HGTV. They give you cheap budgets and they own everything. No opportunities for you to do much when you produce work under these conditions, no foreign market, no home video/on-line opportunities.

As long as there are teenagers living with mom and dad for free with 7Ds and bit torrented copies of FCP, you will find more and more cable nets doing this. Too many content providers and not enough outlets to show it all means lower budgets and the cable nets call the shots. I agree, just go elsewhere and find your own way, there are ways to distribute your material and have more opportunities to make money.

What's so special about your surf film? Why would a network pay money for it? I agree with puredrifting fully. Too much free, semi-high quality content floating around the net, not to mention to many people giving their content away for free. These days, you either have a nice fat corporate sponsor and the marketing/distribution resources that come with it, or you build a fan base around the project and give them reasons to buy your product - self distribution.

i'm not going to bother. there are other networks/distribs who can afford it. fuel obviously isn't in the business of making quality productions.

Quality productions or not, maybe their programmers or program buyers just figure there's not going to be any viewer interest in yet another surfing movie. There are a lot of people out there who would find it boring no matter how good it is. Maybe Fuel just figures that there are a lot of those people among their audience.

it is a bad market that is for sure. if you don't surf watching it is like pulling teeth, if you do surf it's better than porn. but not enough surfers in the world to make it a big market. screw it, i'm moving into porn and exploiting crackheads, cuz that's where the real money is at. :)
