I've lost interest...

Hey -

This is one of those sob stories. I've been doing my first real pay gig with this thing I call a hobby. It's a $500 Mother's day project for a friend of my sister. The thing ended up being 20 minutes long!

I kept agreeing to add stuff at the request of the husband. I captured 8 hours of VHS-C and scanned 175 photos... plus he kept emailing some. I asked for it, really.

So I'm working the project. Writing music... using crap canned stuff... warding off requests for favorite songs etc.

I finally get it done and he doesn't like the ending...

Can't blame him... I didn't either... but it was DONE!!!

So I left it alone for a few days and decided to try again. Came home from work... woke up my Mac and BliP my brand new LaCie 500G drive JUMPS. Jumps. Not falls, JUMPS. Then starts making ALL sorts of crazy noises. I open up the desktop folder and things are just going away!

Of course everything for this project was on there. Except the project files for FCP and AE

Lost all the photos off the drive... luck was with me, I had to scan these on my wife's computer and then burn and bring... so I had the CDs!!! All the video was lost... had to recapture etc.

ANYWAY -

I finally got back to the bad ending and came up with this...

I'll learn one of these days... so, you'll see which photos I couldn't reclaim and I stopped treating the floating pics after a few ... just to see how it looks for real. I'll add more for final.

Please don't tell me it sucks... but seeing what I have now, and knowing how hard AE can be sometimes... if you see some tweaks... TWEAKS DAMN YOU!!!!

Ok.

Man, I hate stories like that.

You'll always be your worst critic. It's not too shabby I'd say.

She'll definitely be stoked on it.

Things will always go wrong on the projects you think will go smoothly. That hurt reading about it. But wait! I thought this was a "Three Boys Production". Not once did I hear you mention your boys helping you on this project. Get those little guys to work! Or blame everything on them. Children are great scapegoats. :)

Downloading the videos nows. Good luck Capt'n!

Are you using Windows XP SP2? Lacie drives have problems with SP2 unless you update the firmware. I know this because I had a problem with a 300 gig Lacie that crapped out on me about two months ago. If you check out their website you'll see that a ton of people are having the same problem. It's the second lacie drive I had trouble with and from now on I'll just buy cheap drives and USB enclosures. Slightly off topic, but thought it related.

I'll check out the videos when I get a chance. Good luck.

Isaac... not really off topic. I'm a Mac Dude... now XP here. This whole LaCie thing had me worried... especially when I called LaCie the guy kind of chuckled an said Yup, Dead alright... better call DriveSavers.

When I called them THEY gave me a 10% LaCie discount!!! Honest! How much business do they give them? (I didn't use them... $5,000!!)

Anyway.

I think it just got too hot and died. Thanks for the push TC/PK -- no three boys on this one.
