I've got my package...now where do I buy it???

Hey guys,
This is a very simple question, but I've gotten so caught up in the technicalities of various audio dilemmas that I forgot to ask it.

If I plan to buy an Oktava Mk012, a Rycote BBG, and a Shockmount, where should I do so online. I know Sound-Room is good for the Oktava but what about the other two?

Also, is the Rycote BBG enough for wind protection for booming. I'll be outside, but there won't be any wind.

Finally, what shockmount is recommended? The $50 one from Sound-Room?

Thanks!!!

Matt

trewaudio.com they have the kssm with soft bands for 100. get the kssm if you can. you can always add the jammer if the bbg is not enough. cheers for going with that.

trew may have the BBG (20mm) in stock. Call and ask to talk to a sales rep. You could get it at B & H, but most people here buy from anyone but.

General consensus here is use the B&H Web site for research, buy from Coffey or Trew or Gotham or Cascade or one of many other smaller resellers. My personal choice is Trew, primarily because I'm in NorCal and if I buy from Coffey I pay shipping and sales tax, whereas if I buy from Trew, I just pay shipping.

Though, I did just buy a Boom Mate on a rush order from Coffey because they are in the same timezone and could still get it out to me that day (with Fedex First delivery - ridiculously expensive but the job was worth it.)

Ahhh, a chance to once again expound on a pet peeve... with the possible exception of B&H, all audio dealers have one thing in common - their websites suck! (pm me if you want to know what I really think). The sad and unfortunate reality of how to buy sound on the internet (except cables) -

1. Research on B&H website
(never, ever ask B&H for advice - they think all shotguns are made by Winchester)

2. Send emails to anyone else you're willing to trust enough to buy from. Pay no attention as to whether or not it appears on their website at all or what the price shows. Be sure to ask if its in stock, estimated ship time, ship options/cost, condition if not new, warranty/exchange privleges, etc. Most (Trew, Coffey, Location, others mentioned on numerous other threads, will also be able to provide reasonable advice). Stick with the known good vendors. There's a bazillion skumsucking low lifes out there.

3. Wait for reply(s)

4. While waiting, Research the DIY forum to see if you could've made it yourself quicker.

5. While still waiting, console yourself by thinking the reason their websites suck and you have to wait so long for gratification is their margins are so small you're going to get it for 2% over cost.

6. Get reply(s)

7. Pick your vendor, Place your order, thank them for their time, tell 'em how much you wish you could have just ordered online instead of having to haggle like some kind of electronic arab bazaar patron. Like everything else, we want our haggl - excuse me, "comparison shopping" to be instantaneous!

8. For cables, just pm MattinSTL. There is no better deal. (I'd demand a commission, but too many others said it first).

Enjoy your new addition!

Oh course there is the quicker route:

1. Use B&H to find what you need and get a price to build down from
2. CALL Gotham, Trew, Coffey, etc
3. Tell them about your situation and needs (if your a noob, say your a noob). Tell them what you want and ask if they think that will work for you.
4. Ask if item(s) are in stock and ask for price
5. If B&H price is lower, tell them and they will meet or beat it.
6. Give credit card info
7. Hang up
8. Wait...wait....wait some more
9. Curse that you did get next day air. :(
10. After you finally forget about the package and have stopped checking the tracking number 3 times a day (Yeah!! it crossed the Mississippi River today!), arrive home to find a box of joy on your doorstep.
11. Ignore wife for the evening playing with your new toy.
12. Find the bed very cold and lonely that night but still fall asleep with smile on face.

And the most important:
13. Be able to call and talk to your salesperson if there is an issue or concern about your new toy's use.

Cheers

Thanks guys for all the great info...

I'll try to avoid B&H and call some of the other places tonight. Once I figure out some options I'll make the choice and keep you guys updated. Thanks again
