I've been upgraded!

Hey Guys,

finally managed to get some time to re-do my website post feedback from DVXuser's from last time round,

the underlying engine (anhar.net v1.2.5) is pretty much the same, 99% has been cosmetic changes (visuals) and layout.

I now need to work on the content.

Plus I've done a 'lift and shift' (moved from my old server, which is now decommissioned) so its now running on my 2nd sever.

The url is now using a DDNS (although the old Domain is still re-directing to the 'newer' DDNS)

Once again Comments/Crits/Feedback would be much welcomed.

New Upgraded Website

Thanks!

I like it.

The link 'vb vs c#? customers do not care' isn't working. A slight oversight I'm sure.
Everything else seems to be working.

Checked with Firefox 3.6.4 and I.E 8.0.6001.18702

I notice that clicking on links opens them in the same tab.
I know I can r-click and open in a new tab. And maybe I could set my settings to
always open links in new tabs, but if your links could do it automatically it would be a bit better. I've noticed on other pages some do and some don't.

Cheers Gord!

I've had a quick look at broken link, its a bug with my anhar.net engine, it dynamically creates those links, basically they are suppose to be extension-less URL for better SEO (eg Google etc),

but the title of that Blog contains a "?" which the browser interprets as a url query string! which breaks the engine oooops.... :)

As for the links opening in other tabs, thats fairly easy to do, I've opted to have just straight links.

I hear what your saying, but its one of those preference things, some users like to open each link in new tabs others wanna stay in the same tab for the same site.

Thanks for the feedback,

Design wise, don't care for the light color blue under your name, it's too light.
Your photo with description, the description is in 'box' format so the letters are
spread out, put the description in its own table and that should get ride of that.

Looks good so far.

Hey Anhar. I like staying on the same tab for the same site too. What I meant was the links that go to external sites which then close your page. I should have clarified.
But even that's a preference I suppose.

@Charli,

I think my production PC must not have the monitor colour's set up right, now that I've viewed the light blue colour on another PC screen its almost invisible!

I'll also work on the boxed up text, looking back now, it does look odd!
I'll amend the colours, Thanks!

@Frank, glad my dry humor made you smile! cheers

@Gord, hey thanks for clearing that up, good call, I'll be changing all external links to open up in a new browser.

Hey Anhar,
Perhaps since it's a blog about programming you're looking for a clean look, but would you consider more than 3 images? (love the EDVAC!) , nothing excessive, just one or two more visuals.
Maybe have the home page look more like the about page?

I like the quotes and red quote marks.

Can't say I know anything about programming whatsoever, but I believe in the 8th graph "These ‘boring’ business applications are not without there own set of challenges" should read "their own set..."
And should the 5th graph read "combining", rather than combing?

Re the disclaimer- I love "I'm only human (most of the time)."

All that said, I wish I understood some of this stuff!
Best of luck!
Chuck

Hi groveChuck,

images are something I'm always aware of, too much text gets really dry to read.

My goal has always been to try to put at least 1 image/photo/diagram/code snippet per blog to try to keep things interesting.

The only problem is sourcing good *copyright* free photos (without having to shoot them myself :) )

Perhaps I may need think about a way to put images (per blog post) thats sits visually in a complimentary way?

As for the spelling your absolutely correct, I'll fix those, I'm terrible at spelling !

As for theme, although its primary about programming, since my interests are varied I'll probably write more than just boring programming stuff (e.g. video related)

thanks for the feedback :)
