itunes is worthless

why is it that itunes decides, one out of every four times I connect my ipod, NOT to recognize it???

Is there any point to this? People at Apple: Does connecting your ipod have to be a crapshoot? Does that somehow push your idea of technology made simple. Where everything is supposed to work.

What a joke.

half the time I need to transfer my new songs to the ipod before I go to work, my ipod doesn't show up in the tray. And if it does, there's usually something else screwing up the transfer process (as in that wonderful moment when itunes said i couldn't transfer a video cause i hadn't upgraded to the new ipod software yet).

JOKE!

oh, not to mention the way my entire computer slows down to a halt every time I connect my ipod.

This company has no right to make fun of PCs. They're easily just as bad, if not worse.

Mine always has been great. I love Itunes. I do not like how they release a new version every two weeks but it keeps getting better. In my opinion. Even the new video ipod update has some sweet new features

Go Apple!

actually since I have 8,000 songs on my video ipod, when I connect Itunes pauses for about 30 seconds to load the ipod up. After that it is smooth sailing.

All Mac products are perfect and cool. that's what that guy on tv with his hands in his pockets says so it must be true. macs don't have problems. they don't crash. iPods and anything else that's white with an "i" in front of it's name is perfect. saying otherwise is sacrilidge and should be punished by death. All hail Steve Jobs and his enormous wallet. we are all tools to His expanding empire and nothing will be good until He is the leader of the world. Everything will be white and shiny and proprietory.

Wow if you only knew how many times I have heard this same rant from someone upset because it's not working for them.
First Question (1) Are you on a Mac or PC ?
Second Question (2) Is your ipod recognized on your computer ?

I love mine, have an ipod and a nano.
Question though, when I connect the nano it (The computer/itunes) erases the songs, it's like it udates itself. I do delete the songs off of the computer after I load them onto the nano. Any ideas?

If you have 2 ipods that you're connecting to the same computer back and fourth, you usually need to reset the one that wasn't used last. That problem happend to me.

I have 3,000 songs and it doesn't freeze on me.

I dont like that I connect the iPod before I open up iTunes and iTunes doesn't see it. It's connected! Why doesn't it see it? So then I have to turn iTunes on then plug my iPod in.

Imagine having to unplug and plug in your USB mouse everytime you turned on your computer.

you roll around your ipod like a mouse?

ive got 8.5 gigs of songs, as well as beta software thats about to go gold, that im helping develop at my day job. Never a problem, mac or PC, and windows formatted iPods work flawlessly on the Mac system without restoring it .

But the PC wont even bother to try and work with the Mac Formatted iPod. Boo to PC's

The newest version of iTunes is too processor hungry, eats too much RAM. They need to slim it down, it's getting to where I can't run other serious apps (Photoshop, etc) and iTunes at the same time. That's very bad for a jukebox program.

Are you using a FireWire connection to a PC running Windows XP? If so, there are serious known issues with Windows XP and FireWire connections not being detected. There are patches available on the microsoft site. I used to have terrible problems with XP detecting my Firewire connection to my camcorder, but numerous patches have somewhat helped ... it's a ridiculous problem.

wilderworks? how much ram do you have in your computer? I run FCP, Garageband, Photoshop in Rosetta, safari and iTunes with no problems.

thats on 1gb of ram

You probably have you ipod set to automatically update. If you go into the preferences of your ipod when it's connected you will see an option for manually update. Set it to that and it won't delete your songs off the ipod unless you delete them manually.

What do you mean by reset them ? Do you physically mean holding down the select and menu button to reset it ? When trying to fix an issue with the ipod not being recognized in itunes the first thing you want to check is whether or not it shows as a hard drive on you computer. If it doesn't that's the problem you want to fix first and it doesn't have anything to do with itunes. Now if your ipod is being recognized on the computer and it still isn't showing in itunes that's another story.

I'm running iTunes, GoLive CS2, Final Cut Pro 5, Compressor,Safari, Mail and Preview all at the same time on my laptop right now and not having any speed issues.

Never had any issues with my iPod and Itunes either.

ipods are funny...

if you said to someone in 1995, that in 10 yrs 70million north americans will have an mp3 player that only works with one piece of software, has battery issues, and can cost as much as $400, they'd say you're an idiot.
were they right?

That's not actually true. You can use multiple programs to sync songs to your ipod.
Ephpod and Anapod are just a few that you can use. While it is true that some ipods have battery issues the majority do not and it's just that most people don't understand how they work and what they can do to maximize their battery life. Issue with the Hard Drive or memory in the unit can also manifest itself as a battery issue

I purchased a video iPod for my wifes birthday and I have an iPod mini, I would like to use both of them from the same computer with seperate play lists for each. How do I do this?

Is there a "DVXUser" type website for iPods that you would recommend?

I'm running iTunes on a PC... "god help me..."

Itunes will automatically allow you to use multiple ipods on the same computer. You just set the first one up then disconnect it and set the second one up.

Now if you have your ipod setup to automatically update and you want to be able to update both ipods automatically while putting different songs on it that's a little more complicated. There are two options for that.

The first option is to in the ipod preferences set it to only update check songs and then check or uncheck the songs the want to update. Now if you have 8,000 songs like I do that will be a pain.

The second option is to create a new user on you computer and use each ipod on a different user. What that will do is give you a seperate itunes library.

Now I know I said there were two options but I guess you can say there is a third option. You can set both ipod to manually manage songs ( which means it won't just update when you plug it in ) then when you plug the ipod in you move the songs or playlists you want onto the ipod.

Also I don't really know if there is an ipod/itunes forum like dvxuser. I know there is the apple forums and you can use their support page
http://www.apple.com/support/

Another option for multiple iPods is:

Set your second iPod to only update a CERTAIN PLAYLIST. I have a Video iPod and a Nano. I made a playlist called NANO, and I set the Nano to only update that playlist...does it all automatically.

Yep you are right. I forgot all about that option. It's been so long since I was taking these phone calls
