It's shipping! And there's a surprise

For those with one of these on order that is obviously great news but the new lower proce makes me feel like they already have their next camera ready for release at NAB.....lol

I have an FS700 and was considering getting an Odyssey 7Q to go with it, the black magic option gives you a Camera and the recording format features all for less cost than the Odyssey and certainly less than the FS700 and the combination of both. You don't get high frame rates with the BM but you do get Global Shutter which is unique at this price range.

If the next BM camera comes with HFR and all of the existing features that would be my next camera. Maybe they will get the delivery date right with the next camera...they were only off by about 5 to 6 months on this latest release.

Probably so. Expect it in stores about this time next year...

At those prices, it is nearly cheap enough to not care. It is not like a 30K product dropping to 7K, it is 3K dropping to 2k, not a biggie. Should have your money by then. That's less then 2day dragon rental, and you get to reuse your accessories. Winning.

The footage looks similar to C series cameras in DR, but the colors are very different. Nicer tonality though. To my eye, there is a big difference between 12stops DR and 13.5+. 13.5 seems to be the moment DR is no longer a major concern.

What surprises me is that the BMPC uses the UHD resolution standard and not the DCI 4K standard the GH4 also offers.

What does this mean exactly. I mean it doesn't have XLR inputs right?

With built in uncompressed audio recording you can record professional audio straight to the ProRes files and totally eliminate separate audio syncing during post production.

No XLR connections on the pictures I saw and on the site it reads"There are 1/4” jack mic/line inputs for recording the highest quality uncompressed audio," but XLR's have nothing to do with the quality just the ease of use and that they are somewhat a standard for professional audio connection on Cameras...but quarter inch works well too just can't send phantom power down. But then this is not a run and gun camera but a production camera that would assume you would be usings alongside a pro audio person and their gear.
But what really amuses me are all the wonderful shots of the three thousand dollar camera with fifty grand in glass hanging off the front end not to mention the thousands of dollars in rig around it. I could live without the model posing too..

Yes, it always gives me a chuckle when the camera is the least expensive piece of gear in the photo.

And it proves my point…. That the camera is now become the expendable part of the cine equation.

Please try to limit your response to 2 characters, a grammatical symbol and an upbeat emoticon next time. Thank you.

Haha, what does your response mean though? You think these BM cameras aren't as smooth as their promo photos? Or you can't believe they're selling a 4K ProRes camera for $3000?
