No, not smoking - my job! Yesterday, I gave a notice in my apartment, and in eight weeks, it will be good bye DC. This is the best present I could give myself for my 45th birthday.
Oldtimers may recall that I used to be pretty frequent on DVXUSER. Then this SH***Y assignment was thrown at me. At first it looked like a pretty interesting deal, but the truth is, I haven't done anything remotely interesting and/or challenging in close to a year, just fixing ancient bugs, one after another. Add to the mix the stupidity of TSA regulations (like, now you have to remove ALL electronics from your bags), Air Canada's decaying customer service, separation from the family, and the decline in the US dollar... I am going back to the Great White North!
Hey - I feel like a crybaby, spewing my negative feelings out to this forum, BUT: there is a positive vibe to this. I wanted to thank dvxuser.com for giving me the hope that there is a more interesting world outside of these cubicle-laced corporate walls, and the courage to leave and search for more.
I don't know what I am going to do yet (when I grow up), but it's sure not going to be another frigging travelling consulting corporate IT gig!
