It's KINO TIME

Hey.
Long story short I'm used to working with tungsten lights (arris, moles, lowel ect)

Kinda new to the whole Kino thing.

What is the difference between the standard Kino 4 Bank and the Kino Diva light 400??

Several differences:

The Diva's have the ballast mounted on the back of the fixture frame, whereas with the 4Banks, you have a seperate ballast box that you have to run the power through. The Diva 400 is also dimmable, which is a pretty cool feature.

I've got three Diva 200s and two 4' 4x4Banks...the 4Banks are big and hard to lug around, so I often only take out the Diva's.

Depends on what you want to use them for, though.

- The 2' 4bank Select Kino and Diva 400 are similar in size.

- The Diva features a dimming feature and uses 55w biax tubes vs T12 tubes and non dimming in the Select Bank. The Select bank you can spark individual tubes or combination of up to 4 tubes.

- The Diva puts out a more light (almost triple) at less amperage (at full on the dimmer).

- The Diva has the ballast built into the light, the Select bank has a remote ballast.

- The Select bank you can strip out the harness and tubes and tape to various places for rigging which can be really handy. The Diva is a complete unit and you can't do this.

- The Diva weighs more than the Select bank (mainly cause of the on-board ballast).

- I like the quality of the T12 tubes better than the 55w tubes. Something about Diva tubes just doesn't look quite right to my eye. Dimming on the Diva shifts the color temp quite dramatically.

I appreciate your help thus far, gentlemen.

Well, it's come down to buying time. Gotta pull the trigger soon (got a shoot coming up where I need daylight balanced lights)

That's the kit I'm looking at. Has a Diva 400 and 200.

The comment about Divas not looking 'right' bothers me a bit. Anyone else experience this? IS there really a large temp change when dimming?

the thing I don't like about the diva is that if you mount it up high/out of reach, and then want to dim it, you gotta climb up there. the 4 banks are nice because not only can you run full juice, but you can turn off tubes, and then go into 2ft mode to knock it down even more....

and yes, I think you can see a color temp shift when you dim down low.

Diva for me. More power is the selling factor. There is no improvising when you don't have enough light, especially with flo's and their light falloff.

Don´t forget to check out CoolLights.com, a site sponsor here, their portable fixtures are similar to the divas...

I'll be selling 2 Kino Flo Diva kits shortly. Both kits have the following:

That's a pretty good offer!

Just to throw something else into the mix, if you are a filmmaker, you should also consider the BarFly 400 Kino. I just finished testing one for an article and it is a pretty sweet setup. It uses the separate ballast like the 4 Bank but it is physically very small. Still has the same lux output as a 1k tungsten, but it is lighter and much smaller than the Diva. It is only 2" thick and weights a little over 7lbs so it is really easy to hide ON and IN your set. If you are lighting talking heads, the Diva is fine but if you want to light your set from your set, this thing is pretty sweet.

that's only true on the first generation diva's.. remote dimming is an option on all diva's made after 2003..

Thanks guys, I think I 'm stearing more towards the Kino 2' 4bank because of the quality of the tubes, and the lighter fixture. I'm still unsure though.

Does a Diva 400 put out more output than a Kino 2' 4Bank? Those are the two fixtures I will be deciding between.

Hey I think I found your kit here for almost 300 less. Barn Door is reputable no? It's probably not exactly the same kit. Anyway check it out.

Your right it isn't the same kit. Lets compare equipment like for like here.

I have the universal unit which works in any country and also your link doesn't includes tubes where as my kit has a set of daylight and a set of tungstens. It also doesn't have the off set bracket or a lighting stand, again mine does.

Just for the record they are still for sale.

Willing to sell one of the kits for £630 (GBP) + SHIPPING.

Peace

The DIVA LITE is almost 3 times brighter than the 2ft 4 Bank.

LIGHT OUTPUT FROM DIVA 400 @ 2ft is 608 foot candles
LIGHT OUTPUT from 2ft 4BANK @ 2ft is 232 foot candles

Anyone else noticing a huge difference between the quality of light from the Divas and the 4Banks?

Yup. Divas output more light, more specular light and a lot of gaffers who do real stuff complain that their 55 watt Biax tubes suck as far as colorimetry. All of the movies and TV shows that I cover use four banks and bigger and BarFlys. I do occasionally see a Diva on a real set in Hollywood but it is rare.
