It's content Stupid!

If Spielberg picked up a DVX100B and made a short film for the internet and it rocked, how many would reconsider their old DVX and brush off the dust and place their new DSLR back on the shelf for at least a month? I've noticed a trend on this and other film blogs. It has become more about the tech than the actual ability to craft a story no matter what camera you have at your disposal.

Every time Tarantino

or what's his face,
Rodriguez

appear at any film festival, all the
tech nerds ask what camera should I be using bla! bla! bla!

Use what you have or what you can afford.

It's content stupid!

Content is king! You are SO on the mark here. I've seen people buy & sell cameras before they can even really shoot anything! Amazing, but we all are a little geeky....and the one with the new toys wins!

An instructor back in undergrad school once pointed out that no piece of equipment is obsolete so long as it does what you need it to do. Good advice. Not to mention money-saving advice.

"Two things kill your story:

1. Audio

2. Script

No brainer."

I was under the impression that audio and script HELPED your story...

Bad audio and Bad writing kill your story.

The script is a telling of the story and like any telling it can be good, bad, or indifferent.

I'm guilty of being a tech and gadget nerd but am trying to get back to the basics of what a good story is and how to tell one. I'm reading novels, scripts and less about tech related issues. Great comments from all. Thanks for the replies.
