...As much as I despise Wal-mart....that's where I am headed to get the new PSP (Playstation portable). I hope it's worth going across town at midnight. I'll be back sometime in wee hours of the morning with my full unbiased and *UNOFFICIAL* review. I sure hope it's worth the $249 + $39-$49 per game. I've never really heard anyone on here talk about video games except for Lebroz and I, so I'm hoping there are more gamers in here. If not...you might think about getting one for your kids as I'm sure it will be one of the hot birthday / holiday Items. Hell, it's a Playstation so it can't be that bad!! But let me get it and seperate the truth from the fiction first!! So I'm off....I'll report back l8r with my findings in glorious detail!! Until then you can check it out at http://www.us.playstation.com/psp.aspx. ~reservoir~

That's too much money for video games in my opinion. Wait 2 years and that thing will cost less than $100.

Such is life, I hope you enjoy it.

Bah Humbug!

Not a fan of these new hand helds - I'm more of a pc guy - causing havoc on online games and whatnot... hehe had some fun with some people on CS: Source today.... I was using an exloit that spawned tons of sprites and crashed servers

I crashed about 57... I know I know - Bad monte - but it was so damn invigorating!

This is a picture of nothing special - but the server is crashing -notice the graph at the right, and the responses in the lower left

....damn....I was almost out the door but I had to reply real quick. Honestly TC...I couldn't agree with you more. I personally am not getting it for the PSP games but for the homebrew and hacking that has already begun to take place with it over in Japan. The thing sports a 16x9 screen with 16.7 million colors....very nice. It also has built in 802.11b for wireless connectivity and to top it off it has a memory stick reader from which it can play Mp3's, video files, etc. This thing is pretty much an Ipod / Photo viewer / portable DVD player / Gameboy / soon to be emulation machine all in one. It has native support for H.264 / Mpeg 4 which is superb!! It will take several months for this machine to flex it's true power as a multimedia machine, but in my humble opinion I think it will be worth it just based on everything it can do *OUT OF THE BOX*....not to mention what else the hacker gods will have it doing very shortly. Pretty neat stuff. ~reservoir~

I'm getting it tomorrow. Luckily, I pre-ordered it about two months ago, so no driving out at midnight for me:thumbsup:
I'll let you guys know what I think of it sometime tomorrow.

Monte- so you were attacking terrorists with purple checker boards??

reservoir- That is pretty cool, I hope it works out.

Dad's home!! Rezzie...you preordered 2 months ago. Wow!! I just walked right in Wal-mart and got one. They got 110 of them in. It was dead as DEAD in there. I was the only one who showed up to get one. Lucky me I guess. It does pay to live in a small town sometimes. But get this. I get the PSP and two games....go to pay...and what happens? My CC account gets frozen!! Nice, so I had to call them and explain to the fraud department that YES it was actually me there at Wal-mart at 1:30am on a Thursday making a $350 dollar transaction and not some identity thief. So after 15 minutes of that I was on my way home. Funny...that's happened every time I've EVER bought a console. But I can't complain...I'd rather have my account frozen and be questioned rather than be suprised by unknown credit card charges. Yeah VISA!! I'm sure the fraud department crapped their pants when I bought 15 PS2's the day they came out. That was a funny story too. So anyway....Dad's home safe and sound and about to test his new toy out. It's no DVX...but It'll have to make due till April 18th @ NAB!! ~reservoir~

Hehe, well, at least you finally got it...and you know your credit card must be safe if each purchase causes an investigation.

Well, I've got great news!! I didn't save any money on my car insurance!! Now let's hear the *BAD* news. Out of the box the PSP has two burned out pixels on the LCD screen. What a bummer!! Looks like another trip to my least favorite store is inevitable!! You can't even notice it unless the screen is completely black, but still it's the principle. I'm not gonna live with it when I can go get another. Forget that. It's brand new...!! So if anyone else has a problem with theirs let me know. I'll be going back out tomorrow to get it exchanged. Aside from that minor thorn in my side I must say this thing OWNZ. It even came with a copy of Spiderman 2...THE MOVIE. Not the videogame. THE MOVIE!! Spiderman 2. And it looks fantastic. So...now I can't do my *unofficial* review until I get one that doesn't have a bad screen on it. Damn, maybe Lebroz' prophecy about Sony is coming true. Money = ALOT. Quality = CRAP!! Let's just hope mine was the one in a million defect. I guess that's what I get for boasting about how great my PS2's were and they never messed up. I get get the PSP lemon right out of the box. Sweet!! Sleeptime....then back to hell....I mean Wal-mart to get a new one. I'll keep you all posted!! ~reservoir~

I would think it would strain your eyes to watch a whole movie on that little screen.

It's the size of a small portable DVD player. 16x9 format. About 4.5 inches by 3 inches. Somewhere along there. It looks really good. Except for the dead pixels (2 of them).....which from reading on other forums seems to be a common problem not only for the new Sony PSP but also for the Nintendo DS. I might just return it for a full refund and wait until the bugs are worked out. Either that or wait until the Quality Control is stepped up just a little!! Sony absolutely refuses to take blame for their F'up's and problems so it may be awhile before their is an *Official* announcement on this. ~reservoir~

Hmmm Interesting - a few of my friends got the Nintendo DS, and some are getting the new Sony PSP. Bah I'm still saving for a DVX ... if I get into this Perpich (finding out on april 15) I'll have another 7 grand free, so maybe a PSP then :)

The power of a PS2 in the palm of your hands... Mine is on it's way... Can't wait to play it on my boarding waits at the airport.

Hope you all have better luck with the *Dead Pixels* issue that I had. I'm just returning it until the buggies have been worked out. Waiting for Sony to make an announcement regarding the pixel issue is probably going to be like watching paint dry. Hopefully they'll address any problems and keep the customers happy and not the execs and chairmen of the board. But then again, we are talking about Sony. Sales first, customers and quality last!! I love being one of the early adopters of new technology. I hope I have better luck with the blu-ray players & burners later this year. ~reservoir~

so.... umm.. whats the update res?

im seriously considering getting one of these puppies this week. i have been doing my research on any site that mentions "psp" and there are a lot of folks who have the pixel issue.. regardless, i may still get it. i hve not bought anything fun with my money lately.. only equipment which is more of a neccessity than a toy...

I saw a TV commercial for it last night and my hands involuntarily sprang into their respective positions for GT4 (which was odd, as my PS2 was in the next room). It's just so damn sexy.

welp i got my psp (instead of the vegas upgrade..) yesterday and ths screen is absolutely amazing! the whole thing is cool. all in all i spent a lot of dough on accessories and games. i was about to get kil bill on umd just for kicks but the blasted thing was 30 bux at best buy(24 at wally world).. so i just will drop my own collection to my memory stick...
