It Really Happened - Pilot

Brandon Rice

Distributed Producer
Well we shot the pilot episode of "It Really Happened" a new kid's history show we're producing. The first episode explores the famous flight of Apollo 11 and it's journey to the moon. Here are some production stills and a montage I edited for the end credits. Enjoy!

Stills look good! Gotta watch the video when I get home from work.

What are you keying in behind the guy talking?

Cool... we're keying a lot of different things. Archived footage, created backgrounds, animation, etc. It's all shot on green screen and we'll be doing all the work in post.

Briceman, did you catch the 60 Minutes episode with Neil Armstrong? He has a book out. Very rarely talks to the media. He is a class act from what I can tell.

suggestion: be sure to talk about the kooks who think the landing was faked and why they think it was faked, then debunk them!

I've added a key test of the intro, without music or anything, but the images we were able to capture turned out really good. I have not CC'd anything yet either.

Those were the glory days of American Ingenuity. I was stationed at Redstone Arsenal in the 70's where the Apollo hardware was designed and tested. The Saturn 5 and the lunar lander are probably the finest exampes of engineering excellence ever.......

hey man, not to be an ass, but i don't think kids will learn very much from your 'actors' character. he's not really teaching as much as he is being a complete idiot. that's just my two cents.

he seems to make NASA scientists and engineers look special...catch my drift?

I notice quite a bit of blue spill in the opening shot, and I think I see the background through the guy at places. Keylight proves to be mostly only a good softmatte keyer. Why did you go with blue and not green?

And I have to agree with Justin. If I was a kid, which I still am (deep inside), I don't think I would sympathize with the character as he sounds more like a scary retarded hobo who lurks around the city, and at whom the moms point and tell their kids to not accept candy from.

As to the colours, I would probably boost the saturation a little to make the colours more vivid and attractive for kids.
Additionally, adding a bit of grain and using a defocusing filter as opposed to a regular blur will help blend the character into the scene better.

We did use green actually... and it's hard to understand the scene without the context and the cheesy quirky music we'll be adding as well.

Hah. Alright. The spill looked blue to me for some reason.
The actor comments still apply though. I doubt music will fix that.

that's cool, thanks for the comment. I'll pass it along... I'm not the one in control of the creative decisions on this one :)

They'd of been better off using a crazy scientist to explain all of that rather than a retarted mechanic attempting a bad new york accent.
