It is cheaper to fly to US than buy Adobe software in Australia

I've been kicking and screaming about how ripped-off us Aussies get with electronics and software for years, about time the watchdogs took notice:

It is cheaper to fly to US than buy Adobe software in Australia:

Aussie consumers pay up to four times more than Americans for the same IT software, devices, games and downloads:

Simon I feel for you , I know how it feels, here is South Africa we have a suimilar situation with Grass Valley product , the product its self only costs $299usd for the upgrade , but what happens the supplier adds the shipping cost on, which ends up costing more than dubble. I bought my upgrade via Switzland at $270 usd. A few years ago Adobe had the same problem, but now we paid the same as in the USA. If you would like to get hold of any of the Adobe PRoducts let me know I am a reseller of Adobe and able to help you get adobe at a cheaper price maybe even at my wholesale price ;) excluding shipping. Give me a PM and let see how am I able to help you Aussies.......
PS the price depends on how bad your rugby teams lose against our teams in the Super15 and Tri- Nations..........;)

Perhaps the reason has more to do with Australia than Adobe.

Geography, distributor power, VAT, customs fees, and local shenanigans play a large role in price differences.

Why don't you just rent a U.S. box and pay a service to repackage and forward?

Worse still is when you get googled and arrive at a US site and don't notice, you get as far as clicking on the checkout button and then the software notices you are not in the states, and redirects you to the UK site where the price rockets. In a way, I can see that with a delivered product, the import/export/tax situation is the key, but for a download, which is truly international, it does seem genuinely unfair. I can't remember which product I bought once on ebay (could have been Sony) but the registration failed for being out of licensing territory - the authorisation server knowing I was in the UK, and my product was only usable in the states!

There's not much I buy locally. We do you Rode mics, Miller tripods, Blackmagic, and Atomos. I didn't buy my Rode mics and Miller tripod because they're Australian however, I bought them 'cause they're bloody good!...and cheaper here. Everything else I get for HK or the US. I'm surprised the Government is actually hassling the Corporations, yeah they should be hassling Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic too.

Just get the Adobe creative cloud..... if your business can't soak up $60 a month for such an amazing set of tools, you have bigger things to worry about. Sure, i pay a bit more than my American counterparts, but that deal is amazing, no matter where you are.

If I can't ship it here - I use shipito - works fine, they are really accomodating, will repackage, split contents or join packages together

Years ago I worked for a company that tried to export from the US to Australia. It was prohibitively expensive. The fees were intended to force companies to set up shop in Australia to create jobs. Either way, that makes it more expensive. It may not be true in this case, but let's see what the companies say in to the Parliament.

The Adobe creative cloud is great in theory but is horrible in practice. It is not fun to go on an event and licenses starts to act up because of Adobe being Adobe, i.e. poor to no support, at least thats the case here in Sweden. I've had so many problems like missing presets in premiere, etc. and encore not working after install from fresh re-formated system (and encore must work in order to unlock licenses for premiere, etc...). I freelance, and I work on a lot of places and the simple fact is that the places with creative cloud have way more problems than the companies/people that pirate the stuff and cracks it. I also know some places where they pay for the cloud service, but use cracked versions because they like the product, but not the hassle that comes with being a paying customer.

At my current place, I have to log in twice every time I start an Adobe program, and the second time I can cancel, because I'm already in (the stuff is all valid and fine) and makes seemingly no difference if i type in password again than just cancel. But I spend 10-15 minutes every day on hassle (an hour a week, which is over 100$), I can't open a project file from outside the programs, so if I have a project with long load time I can't start it and do something else, but I have to wait for the program to start, then chose open project... Dynamic Link stuff won't work sometimes, so for example the warp stabilizer in AE won't work or stops to work in the middle of a project, which requires me to restart the computer or after effects... My boss has talked to Adobe support about it, but they don't know anything... With stuff like that, it is no wonder to me why some of the smaller companies don't pay for a license, because all you pay for in reality is to be hassled. Now, I have only had these issues with Cloud, and not DVD-versions of the software. But I will say that the cloud licensing system is really bad.

I'm a cloud subscriber and love it. The only issues I see now and then are that it asks for my login a few times a month maybe. Beyond that, no difference between cloud and regular except the monthly price, which is incredibly low for the tool set.

well for europeans its the same (well at least for my country)...usa - 2600usd = 6700 litas (our currency) europe - 3330eur = 11500 litas..the price almost doubles...yeah and i live in a third world country, well atleast adobe cloud system is quite fair even for my country, although its still almost 2x the price.

I thought Gillard/Abbot were incapable of answering questions unrelated to their pre-prepared soundbytes but this guy doesn't even make a show of it. What's your name? Cloud. What's 2+3? Cloud. Can you recommend a tasty beverage? Cloud. Care to share your opinion of Jungian archetypes as they relate to rites of passage? Cloud. Favourite sexual position? Cloud. Reasons for overpricing your software? Cloud cloud cloud cloud cloud. Cloud.
