Most of you guys know Istockphoto.. well they just stormed out with Istockvideo.. this could be a good opportunity for some of you guys to sell your stock footage, and for others a great (and cheap) way to buy some insert footage for your edits.

OK, so it seems strange to respond to a post that's more than three years old, particularly one that never got any traction, but I didn't find many threads about this topic so here goes anyway...

Has anyone ever sold or does anyone currently sell stock footage through a site like iStockVideo? If yes, what kind of results have you seen? Make any money? Worth the effort? If not, why not?

I've done photos, not video. The technical standards are quite high and it took me a while to understand what they are after. From what I've heard you need to take it very seriously to make real money, but it can be done. My guess is that the video experience will be very similar.

My friend is one of their top sellers, he makes pretty good money doing it. But all of his video is animation, time lapse still sequences from his Canon 5D MKII or highly modified video that really has been treated with a lot of AE and graphics. Tough standards. My friend does really high concept visual design, perfect for corporate. He does alright.

I have not heard of may people making much with regular old HD stock footage with them. The prices are so cheap and HD stock footage has become commoditized, it is now so commonplace. People don't generally care if stuff is shot really well, lit well or if it was shot on film anymore, that's why you can license clips for $20.00 a piece.
