Issues with dvx 100

I’m a young high school student on limited funds and ive always wanted to get my hands on a 24p camera. I was seriously looking into buying a dvx 100a but it seems to be selling just beyond my means 2,000 +. I have infact found many dvx 100's with low hours and good prices. My question is, from all of your experiences with both is there anything between the two cams that make the 100a a must have or problems with the 100 that would prevent me from making a great looking student film. I was wondering if I could get some feedback. Thanks a lot in advance.

I found myself in the same situation as you a little while back. Student filmmaker with little to no funds, and it sucked. I was about to buy a decent DVX100 from a store that sold used video cameras. The price was within my range and I almost bought it, until a friendly university student in Geulph sold my his DVX100A for a price I couldn't refuse. Ok, here's what I know, the DVX100 lacks some of the CINELIKE functions that are found with the DVX100A, and I believe it also lacks some of the AUTO FOCUS (Or "ASSIST") funtions of the 100A as well. It still has 24P mode (24PA too, I believe) and I would have to say that there definatly no problem in purchasing a DVX100. If that's all your wallet will allow, go for it. But remember, a good video camera won't solve all your problems. Good lighting, good audio, good acting, good story, good cinematography is what you really need to achieve. And if you combined the DVX100 with all of those filmmaking essentials, you'll have a great start to your filmmaking craft, my friend.

Good luck to you. God bless

Oh, by the way. I'm not sure where you live, but there are film festivals all over the place designed specifically for student filmmakers. Here's one I know of : Youngcuts Film Festival in Toronto. Check out thier website!
Just my two cents. Thought I'd give you some incentive to get out there and start making some movies! :)
