I used vimeo for a while. Then I started wondering why my DV footage on vimeo looked so inferior to the mp4 I had produced. ( I do use HD too by the way ) Turns out they recompress the already compressed mp4 into a flash video! WTF! That's what YouTube does! I had to find an alternative. Enter Vzaar. I was initially not impressed by what they had to offer until I discovered you can stream the original mp4!! Awesome! Of course the original compressed file can also be an flv, mov, or whatever file format you prefer. Wow...!
Of course, a service like this does not come cheap, $30 a month is the cheapest option they have, so I did test it first to see if it worked on facebook, and my Wordpress site. It does work. But ! It can't embed directly on Wordpress! You need to go through an ugly workaround and post it in VodPod first. Luckily VodPod won't charge you, but they will try to sell you stuff! Be warned!
Overall, I am quite impressed with Vzaar, except for this ugly workaround. My demo clips look a lot better now on mp4 format and the Vzaar flash player it's a lot better than Vimeo's ( On Vimeo I could not get rid of the ugly headings/titles on my Video no matter what ) You can also customize it although the default looks okay to me.
