Is vignetting on one side normal?

I was playing around with an SGpro today, and on both my monitor and the LCD I was zoomed in far enough to where there was no vingnetting. But when I imported the footage into FCP, i noticed that there was some on just the left side (right when i flipped the footage)... I wasn't alarmed at first, just because I though it may have been an issue with underscanning... but then I got concerned because it was only on one side. Anyone have this issue? Is it nothing to worry about? Here is an image to show you what I'm talking about:

That's bizarre. I've never had that issue with the SGPro. All I could say is, maybe zoom well past the vignetting area, rather than only just past it? That way you could avoid it altogether. You should still be able to focus on the ground glass as long as you don't go too far (but I suppose that depends on your camera).

Unfortunately this isn't all that unusual for any of the adapters. It could be due to a misalignment in your unit itself, but far more likely is that fact that consumer and prosumer video cameras seem to have more or less slop in the precise alignment of the sensor. I've put the same adapter on three or four identical cameras and found them all slightly off center in different directions. This is why Wayne added an XY adjustment on the SGBlade. Other newer adapters have added similar adjustments.

Email Wayne at shoot 35 and find out if he can add an XY adjustment ring for your SGPro and camera combination.

Of course you are complicated by the evident fact that whatever camera you're using doesn't show the full underscan picture in the viewfinder. Its actually even more serious to have this on your monitor as well. Most decent monitors show full underscan but not all. My old Marshall had slight cut off.

Until then you simply have to zoom in past it. Its not a terrible solution and shouldn't compromise your image much.

I think V3 of the sgpro has an XY adjustment.

Then again, perhaps I am wrong.

What version of the adapter do you have?

I have the sg pro r3, and im attaching it to the HVX200. I bought the unit used so needless to say I have no instruction manual.

Hi,

The HVX200 is notorious for having a misaligned CCD. From your screen grab, I can see you are using the SGpro non flipped, the Non Flip Tube does not offer X/Y adjustment, only the FLIPmodule. You will need to zoom in until the vignetting disappears.
