Is this used cinevate atlas 10 slider too damaged to buy?

I'd send an email direct to Cinevate. They're a good crew who would happily tell you if that will effect performance. I'll see if I can nudge someone here.

Hi SGCman,

From what I can tell from the photo, the ding in the Atlas 10 appears to be on the top outer edge of the rail. If that is the case, then it shouldn't affect the performance of the slider at all.

Before you make the purchase, it would be best to confirm that the rail isn't bent and that the carriage hasn't been damaged - which are both things that would affect performance.

I hope that helps you make your decision.

Also, thanks to Noel for bringing this to our attention :)

Thanks
Dan

This has got to be one of the most helpful online communities I've ever seen, thanks for all of the advice!

I e-mailed cinevate as suggested, but I also just asked the seller and he says:"The ding is on the outside of the carriage track. The carriage sliding mechanism is actually attached to two round bars (you can see on in the pic you referenced) inside with bearings. The outside is more or less a frame to give structure and protect the workings. It is scratched, dinged, and used, but it works well."

Does that sound about right? Thanks again.

I own one of these Atlas 10 sliders (and love it) and I still can't figure out where the ding must sit. So long as it's not on the rails (which it isn't) it shouldn't affect the smoothness of the slider at all - which is determined by how smoothly the bearings run along on the rails themselves.

So I think you'll be fine. They're great little sliders, built like tanks and very stable and smooth (even with a heavily loaded camera on top), just make sure you get a high-quality 3/8" tripod head to make best use of it.
