Is this shot possible to do as VFX?

I think reshooting it sounds easier. :) And I LIKE doing AE work, but I always look at which makes more sense.

Also, is that a shadow from someone moving in front of the light at the lower left before the dolly begins?

Yeah it's a crew shadow, unfortunately I didn't notice it on the small screen during shooting. In the grade I've darkened that area down to try and take the attention of it.

Is it possible to remove it in AE?

Sorry to sound like a broken record but Mocha could get rid of that shadow, again using a clean plate. as a base.

Edited to say you can use AE as well but it would mean using the clone brush and tracking its position with a script ,which from the tutorial I read is a bit of a pain. You can find it if you go to adobe help and look up clone brush, the tutorial is by angie tylor. I think it's on creative cow.

Yep, you can use a mask with a feather on an adjustment layer and apply something like brightness/contrast. Then, just keyframe the mask as it moves. Not too hard to do. I've not used the clone brush. To me it looks like there is enough detail still in the shadow to pull it up without seriously impacting the quality.

As for Mocha, still gotta learn that tool myself :)

Actually, now that I have watched it further, the shadow goes down the bricks, across the ground and then OVER the actors face. If it were me, I'd try to use an adjustment layer with a mask to lighten the shadow as it moves and changes, but, I think it is going to be tricky. Possible, yes, but definitely not easy keeping everything from fluctuating. I hate to say it, but it might be better to just reshoot if this is an important scene in the film. Now you have two things you are not happy with.

Sadly a reshoot isnt possible as I can't get one of the actors. I'll look into the adjustment layer method.
