is this script original in your opinion?

I, Robot? Original enough, I suppose. But certainly there have been plenty of films dealing with the same themes from AI to even Cherry 2000. For some reason I saw the very horrible Surrogates in theaters last year and it was almost a complete rip off of I, Robot, but with the slight twist that the humans were the machines.

I, Robot is based on an Isaac Asimov short, and plenty of movies long before I, Robot were based on his works. Bicentennial Man, for example, from 1999. If I remember right, Through a Scanner, Darkly was loosely based on Through a Glass, Clearly. So is it original?

I suspect many scripts are actually transcripts, done from the movie - but from my memory of this movie, some sections of this don't appear in the released version, so it could be taken from a draft. All these you can find are unofficial, so nobody is going to come out and say they pinched it, and typed it up. I don't suppose it's easy to say for certain, as nobody is going to own up!

There are often many many writers on a movie, and the WGA decides who gets credit. Only 2 writers can get screenplay credit and only 2 writers can get "story by" credit, meaning only 4 writers can get credit on a film even if a dozen writers worked on the screenplay. Also, you need to contribute at least a third of the material in the finished film to get any credit. Many many writers do "punch ups" and dialogue or action revisions, and may get no credit at all because they haven't added a third new material, just cleaned up the existing stuff.

What happens is an arbitration panel reads of the drafts of the screenplay and then decides who gets credit. Sometimes it's very close and a writer who thinks they should be credited is not.

When you read the writing credits on a movie, you don't see all of the rewriters on the project.
